I was really unsatisfied with how they handled Yang's recovery in Volume 4. As someone who recently spent the last three years of their life in physical therapy for a leg injury, it was really upsetting how they pissed away such a good opportunity to explore Yang's character and develop her more. She had two talks with her dad, put on the robotic prosthetic arm, and tussled around in the front yard with him a bit before leaving like everything was perfectly alright.
It's not like I'm asking for a realistic recovery time (fuck that, it took me years to learn how to walk right again). But I wanted to see more struggle, emotion, and weakness in Yang. She was such a confident, un-bothered character in the first three seasons. Putting her in a state of weakness and vulnerability was a great opportunity to do something fantastic with her.
And they just pissed the chance away.
Yang's part in Volume 4 felt very rushed. I don't know if it was issues behind the scenes, concerns over pacing, or simply bad writing, but whatever the case was it's neat to see comics like this that actually look into Yang's struggle.
