The blood elves, sin'dorei ("children of the blood"), are an elven race native to Azeroth. They are descendants of the Highborne who founded the Kingdom of Quel'thalas and known as the high elves before changing their race's name after the Scourge invasion of Quel'thalas. Their name is a dirge, referencing both the blood of their many brethren who fell during the Third War and their royal lineage.
