Lego Hypothetical: Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider in Lego would be cool, so I thought up how I think Lego would do it if they did it. The idea is based off of the designs for the upcoming game by Crystal Dynamics.

This one I did a little different by combining the concept art pose with one of the promotional art backgrounds, mainly because the promo images are either just of the head, or in a position that would look awkward in Lego.

This is a part of my Lego concept series, intended as if were to be a product, not a video game. A Lego video game requires there to be a Lego product, of which none of these, that I will be doing, are.

Hello, I am a big fan of the 'Tomb Raider' franchise and I admire each and every fan art (such as great as this) of Lara (and friends or enemies) that I see! This summer I started a Facebook fan-page which in the past few months has raised over 9,100 likes and since September I've been releasing the first ever fan-made magazine titled 'Tomb Raider Times' where we explore the stories, gameplays, characters (and many other things) of the franchise, we also give latest news and have an article for a random game to talk about + an article for fan art and puzzles (games) we create. However for our third issue coming 01.11.2014 (tomorrow) we have decided to make a dedication to the greatest fan artworks of the 2013 reboot of the game. And this piece of yours has been chosen and put inside. We know that we should have asked for a permission first (even some don't when using some else's work), but we were finishing the magazine in last minute and couldn't wait for a reply, we hope that you understand and think of this for a path to more followers of your page and work. Our first magazine has been downloaded over 1,000 times and the second almost 800. I am sure that some of the hardcore fans will take a time to look at your piece and admire it, as much as we do too. Also, you can like our Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/pages/Tomb-Ra… where you can find links (tomorrow) to downloading (for free) our magazine (also our past issues) and maybe in future (or whenever you want) you could submit more work. Best regards :D

Given the blocky graphics in the original games, a LEGO version would be great.  I bought graph paper in order to draw out the floor plan of Croft Manor because of it -- including the special areas in TR3 that go beyond the manor's boundary wall.

A LEGO remake of the original games was something that came to mind while playing LEGO Indiana Jones (the original trilogy, NOT the one including "Crystal Skull"), using various areas of Croft Manor as access points to each game.  The first game within the manor, the next two outside the manor but within the grounds, and the last three beyond the front gate -- probably unnoticed from the intro FMV of "Chronicles", but the church grounds containing Lara's memorial is OPPOSITE the manor (you can see it in the background).

Another reason for LEGO Tomb Raider: the sets for each stage IN FULL.  A cross-section of the inside of Atlantis would be huge -- I had Lara fall off after beating Natla's monster, and she made that falling-scream THREE TIMES before he hit the lava.  A scale model of that would be awesome!

While your argument is nicely detailed and reasoned, I do explicitly state in my work as a marketing concept for the actual Lego product, and not as a Lego video game. While I think that Tomb Raider would likely work as a Lego game, that is not the purpose of this series of mine, since a Lego game requires there to be a Lego product to base it on first. Thanks for the enthusiasm though!

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. If you're talking about the background image and logo, those are all public images I found using google, and made slight modifications to them to make it fit within the rest of the piece.

As a long-time LEGO fan, I've gotta say that is an incredible minifig design, and of course I would just plotz if LEGO ever did a Tomb Raider license! They won't, but this amazing piece can let us all dream, right? :) Superb.

If you're asking what program I used, then the answer is Photoshop CS4 and some Autodesk Maya.

To be honest I can actually see this happening! With all the Indiana Jones LEGO going on it couldn't hurn to get old Lara some LEGO sets. And while they're at it they're at it they should make some Uncharted LEGO too! Great job anyway!
