Fibromyalgia Awareness Day 2014 by eitanya Fibromyalgia Awareness Day 2014 by eitanya
I saw this idea too late last year, but May 12th has rolled around again.  :)

If I could say one thing about living with Fibromyalgia, this is it.  That's not to say I don't have bad days where I can't get out of bed and I whine a lot about all the things I'm not accomplishing right at that minute.  But the last 10 years have taught me a lot.  You take advantage of the good days, don't stress about the bad ones, and never ever give up.  It means you find another way to do the things you love and don't waste energy on the things you don't.  It means you hurt every day but you tough it out because you're a freakin' ninja.  :katana:

And I have to add that I love you all and I am so grateful for your support and encouragements through all of my wacky creative endeavors.  I have the best fans/followers/customers/friends in the world!  :D

Thank you!  I realized I didn't own anything purple so I pulled one of the Ninja scarves and some gloves out of my shop.  :D

Well I never knew May 12th was Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.
Seem to recall we've spoken about FM before - my Mum  was diagnosed about 13 years ago, and after may years of various issues I was diagnosed about 2 years ago.
I love how you've put it - some people are full of sympathy about how awful it is that I can't do this or that, and can't get their heads around the fact that there are things that I can do that I love, and that is all I focus on - being negative helps fibro to win - and I'm not about to let that happen!  Perhaps I could be a ninja too! :D

I hereby make you an honorary ninja.  :ninja:  :D  This year I saw that it's supposed to be the whole month of May, I'm not sure who decides these things.  It's nice to at least have a day where it's okay to talk about it without people just assuming you're complaining.

Now if only I could show you where there really is a school for ninjas, I'm sure you'd have a blast there.

Good on you!  I've been dealing with it for a decade, and this sentence is completely right: "It means you find another way to do the things you love and don't waste energy on the things you don't."

Hee. Love the sign!~

My mum has Fibro, so I understand the toll it takes not only physically but emotionally. I like what you have taken/learned from living with it; way to pull something positive out of a lousy hand that you've been dealt. :) Keep hanging in there and kicking its ass and I look forward to seeing your next creative endeavour! ;)

This is awesome x3 Even if it's part of you, it's just one part; and not the one that dominates your life!

I have to remind myself of that, but I definitely don't want people to think of me as "the sick one."  I'm totally okay with being "the weird artsy one" though.  ;)

Had no idea you even had fibro.  I've got a couple of offline friends that have it and I know it can be hell to deal with (one of them handles it better than the other), plus my mother-in-law has it.  Kind of makes me wonder how common it is.  Anywho, kudos on taking it head on!  Just remember, a regular sleep schedule is one of your best weapons against it.  And maybe a katana blade.  Those are great weapons against anything!

I think the numbers are something like 2-8% of the population, which sounds tiny until you realize that's millions of people.  It's so hard to diagnose I don't think there's any real way to tell, though.  Sleep and steering clear of gluten and dairy have helped me more than anything.  And of course katanas, if all else fails ninja it.  ;)

Avoiding gluten is another thing my one friend tried and found some success with.  Tends to be different with everyone, though, which is why it's such a pain to diagnose.

Yeah it really all depends on the person.  I know some people who have done really well on the medications, but mostly they just made me randomly fall down.

That might be funny, if not for the root cause being rather sucktastic.  Just wear elbow pads and stuff.  ;P
