Artwork for the official 2015 Wheel of Time ™ calendar.  This scene features a pivotal conversation between Accepted Egwene and Aes Sedai Verin Mathwin.  I know it's a vague description… I'm trying to avoid spoilers here!  Verin is one of my very favorite characters, so I was excited to paint this scene.  It is also gave me a chance to explore portraiture outside my Art Nouveau influenced works. The symbols inside the border represent the dream ring, Verin's ever-present pen and ink bottle, the small owl she keeps to deter mice in her study, a trolloc skull to show her interest in study of dark prophecies. Prints of this piece will soon be available on my website: www.edselarnold.com

Thanks for the kind words!!  I feel like my style has evolved some since this piece, but I love the scene... one of these days when I have more time, I may have to repaint it just for fun!!  Until then, I have too many untouched WoT characters I have to try to paint!!

This made me gasp when I saw it. All the emotion of that scene is captured here in two faces that appear so serene, yet both know that the fate of the world hangs in balance. Well done.

Thanks so much for your kind words.  I love this passage so much... probably one of the top five most moving passages in the entire series for me.  I'm glad my painting moved you... You know artists are very self critical, and I already see ways I'd like to change this... so it's nice to think that even in it's current incarnation it recalls the angst and beauty of that passage for WOT fans.  It also makes me want to continue to improve my skills because conveying emotion is one one of my goals, even though I'm probably more well known for "pretty".  Thanks again!  Stop by my bazaar table if you are at the DragonCon Art Show this year!

It must be a bit like being a writer. I am my own harshest critic whether it is a short story or one of the poems I have up on this site.
