Oh my god, you’re so brave! I can see all the backlash happening, and it is not pretty. I would never post any of my own taxidermy for fear of all the uneducated people making rude comments and saying it’s animal abuse. But it’s really really not! The rat is already dead, that’s what taxidermy is, saving and preserving a specimen.
Honestly, the reason so many people hate taxidermy is only because they are so uneducated.
I like taxidermy. It makes sense to me, as long as the animal isn’t only being killed for the purpose of using its hide.
When a pet dies you can have them preserved.
Because, honestly, would you rather have your pet rotting in the ground feeding worms, or preserve the pelt and make it something beautiful? Something to remember them by?
It’s not gross at all, it’s actually very sanitary. When done properly it doesn’t even mold or house bacteria! Taxidermy is an amazing art!
People keep saying, “oh! Poor thing!” But it’s already dead! It was dead when they started the taxidermy! The rat wasn’t hurt, it was already dead. There is no reason to think it’s mean or disgusting. It’s NOT cruel, stop saying it’s cruel. The rat wasn’t abused or tortured! It was already dead! How many times must I say that!
To the people who think it’s wrong, do you think donating organs is wrong?? I didn’t think so. And to the people who say “would you want that happening to your body?”, sure why not. At least my body is being of use, and not filling the earth up with graves. At least they’re making something beautiful with me.

Rats are beautiful loving and caring creatures! Heck, I have FIVE plus of my own! The people who think “if you’re okay with this, then you hate rats” are wrong. VERY wrong. Honestly, if you’re okay with it (see the beauty in it) then you’re the REAL rat lover.
Do you ever go to the museum and see the pretty preserved animals there? You don’t think twice about it. You’re not going to yell and bitch about it to the museum curator or owner, so don’t be mean to edelias! It’s art! It’s not wrong! It’s not gross! It’s NOT animal abuse!
Please, if you’re just going to be hateful, don’t bother commenting. It’s not needed and helps nobody.
dA is a place to show love for people art <3

As long as the animal have died from natural causes or in an humane way (like we do in Sweden when they are to become food to reptilians) I see no problem in this at all. It's a nice piece of art and I find it better to let the animal "live on" like this instead of just being thrown away.

And to all of you who find death disgusting and that no animal should be killed for food i have some news: 1. Death is natural but are in very few cases caused by something natural, like old age.
2. There has been proven that vegan food contains remains from the meat industry like intestines and cartilage. It is just not put on the food package.
I just wonder what we should feed our pets with if we should shut down the meat industries. Or are we not allowed to have pets then? I have a dog, two cats, two snakes and two rats, which I guess must make me a bad person for giving them animalistic food so that they survive.

Whatever, it's just your opinion. Just like it's our right to be disgusted by dead animals.

And if you really like death in art, then you should definitely check out Gunther von hagens if you don't know him yet.

This is beautiful. It reminds me of when my rats smoosh their faces into their hammocks when they sleep. I don't see many rat taxidermy like this, I'm impressed. Rats have such short and fleeting lives, while I usually prefer animals to be re-created as they were in life, the mood created by this peace is peaceful and uniform. I'm glad this piece has gotten much recognition as well. Not many think of the thousands of rats that give their live everyday for human purposes. I hope the rat in this piece passed just as peaceful as he is depicted here.
