I'm sitting here, swilling my morning coffee, staring at my website stats and pondering the mysteries of abandoned shopping carts. 40 in the last 6 weeks - all abandoned at checkout. First I thought, maybe there's something not functioning correctly with my checkout system. So I bought a pair of earrings from myself just to test it. Seemed to work fine. Now I'm just trying to figure out why and it's driving me batshit crazy. I realize people change their minds and abandon their carts all the time. I've done it myself. Somehow this just seems excessive. I think I need more coffee.

Other than that, I've been knitting like a fiend. Well, knooking actually. I've always been a crocheter who wanted to knit. I've collected thousands of knitting patterns over the years, but I've never been able to master the technique. I guess the motions of crochet are just too deeply ingrained. Then I discovered the technique of using a crochet hook with a cord threaded through it and that was all it took. It took a lot of trial & error to find the fastest way to do it with the most economy of motion. I'm an instant gratification kind of girl. If it takes too long I'll never finish it. There was also the problem that all the instructions I found were only for the most basic knit stitches, so I had to spend time studying how the fancier knit stitches were done traditionally and figure out how to translate them to the knook. But, I've weathered that and now it's full speed ahead. I decided this year, I'm knitting lace shawls for the women on my holiday list. I went to a thrift store and bought a bunch of cashmere sweaters in pretty colors for surprisingly little money, took them home & unraveled them. Now I have lots of beautiful cashmere yarn to use for my holiday shawl projects. I just hope I can finish them all in time...

I've been trying out a bunch of new techiques lately. I freely admit that when you're bustin' ass trying to produce stuff for a craft show looming on the immediate horizon is probably not the best time to try new things. But, what the hell...

For years I keep coming back to trying to make wrapped settings for stones and always ended up with a tangled mess. I decided to try it again - 2 days before the craft show. As I sat there frustrated, staring at this nasty looking jumble of wires in my hand - I had an epiphany. It's ALL about strategically placing pieces of tape as you're working your way around the stone. Finally, after years of frustration I actually had a couple of pieces I wasn't totally embarassed to show to anyone. The craft show happened on Friday so the pressure is off and now I'm tearing through my gem cabinets wrapping things like a fiend.

I think I need to buy more rocks...
