Which is you're preferred edition? And what kind of character do you play.

I haven't tackled 5th yet. Our campaign started in 1993 and my husband has been GMing through every edition through 20th anniversary (now). I've had a lot of great characters. One of my favorites is a recovering Aztec Blood Shaman, but I also like my Tir Tairngire Former-Royal Bodyguard, my lesbian Heavy Gunner, my ex-corp decker, and my prostitute-turned-Face. And yes, I did play a cat shaman once - but she was an alley cat shaman with many of the annoying cat habits. She had a great run-in with a Gecko Shaman who played dead. She'd get bored and he would move and she would jump on him and he would play dead then she would get bored and then he would move and she would jump on him and he would play dead... this lasted for hours. Eventually he escaped and the team was pretty pissed. :D

I've found 5th to be a very good edition and surprisingly complete in the one rule book. I know that many have players have complained by augmented reality and the integration of the comlinks but personally I've found it to be very inspirational for both role-playing and fictional writing.

My husband complaints have to do with little things like the lack of understanding of the metric system (27" tall - 90lb Gnomes? Really?), the change of Vampires and Werewolves into playable characters by reducing their essence loss from 1/day to 1/month, and the qualities that give free dice rolling points for sob stories (you want a higher agility because you're Daddy doesn't love you?). That and the rewriting of SR history to fit someone else's campaign. But most of those complaints (besides the metric system) are because he's an old school gamemaster who has us roleplay everything instead of rolling dice and he's been GM'ing the same universe since 1st edition so continuity means he had to stop reading the sourcebooks 15 years ago.

But we LOVE this game and play several nights a week.

Well a game with that length of continuity has enough momentum that I can see why people would be reluctant to change.

BTW my own current character is Fred Douglas. He's a Troll sorcerer (can only cast spells) from Saskatchewan whose mentor spirit is his ancestor is Tommy Douglas (the father of Canadian universal healthcare, I'm using bear spirit as a model). He wears an armoured bear skin jacket and T-shirts like 'Loud and Proud' and 'I'm why we can't have nice things' (he's a troll afterall). Surprisingly the team's combat/run leader. He's not the best planner, but he's very good at 'playing the hand that's dealt' and getting team out of a bad situations.

Neat. I love affectations. For awhile SR artists and players got a little too Gothic, Metal, "All Black", or "All Spec Ops Kit". I'm glad to be a part of bringing Character back to the characters.
