[DOTW] Darkfall Gambit

Just one more tribute.

Vantablack had defended the fort for a while, but as things began to get dark, they set out. They needed to steal a tribute from the Wildfire Tales fort to win. Vantablack wasn't very good at the offensive, as their lumbering figure and pitch dark pelt made them stand out whenever they tried. They got tagged several times, and for the rest of the day they stayed at their fort

But as day turned to night, they wanted to do something. As much as they loathed the night, the darkness of the forest was the only chance they had to steal a tribute.

They snuck into a bush just on the edge of their quadrant and waited for it to fully get dark. They watched wolves hustle by in the distance, too far for Vantablack to pursue themselves but some of the time they saw their teammates chasing wolves. Either way, Vantablack had their own mission.

Once the world was dark enough, and it was quieter, they emerged from the bushes. As quiet as their lumbering figure could manage, they snuck through the forest, paws falling onto the undergrowth carefully and silently as their dark frame blended perfectly into the dark of the forest. Thankfully, it wasn't too hard to see the fort in the dark, but still a challenge nonetheless. That meant it would be harder to see them in the dark, provided Their light didn't hit their eyes wrong.

Once they got close enough, they ducked down and waited in small thicket of ferns. They could just barely make out the tributes in the base. As they waited for an opportunity, they saw another wolf patrolling the base - Vantablack wasn't sure who it was in the darkness, especially with them needing to be four wolf lengths from the base and being on the opposite side currently. They hoped that the berry juice stain on their face didn't give away their presence... as they might have to do a lot of waiting. Vantablack also hoped they weren't stationed too close to the base - they were close but not that close.

But, not as much waiting as they realized. They saw the guard take off after something - Vantablack was unsure of what, but now was their chance!

They got up and moved as quickly and quietly to the fort as they could, and without thinking twice, they grabbed a random tribute - a fox jaw - and sprinted for their life back towards their quadrant. At that point, they didn't care if they were seen - their exit did make a lot of noise so they definitely could have alerted someone - but they had a head start and were running on pure adrenaline. This was the last tribute, if they got this back to their fort they win the game.

Vantablack kept their sprint up for as long as they feasibly could, clenching the fox jaw tightly in their teeth as air whistled back and forth through their teeth. They couldn't tell if anyone was chasing them with how loudly their heart was beating within their ears. But, the mere thought of someone being right on their tail - someone potentially faster than them - allowed Vantablack to keep their full sprint back to their quadrant. Eventually, they could see their fort ahead. Which meant one thing.

They are in their quadrant. They got the tribute.

Their team has won.

"I GOT THE LAST TRIBUTE!" Vantablack shouted for their team to hear, just barely catching the fox jaw when it fell out of their mouth. They skidded to a stop at the fort and dropped the tribute in the place they held the stolen tributes.

From there, Vantablack flopped over to take much needed rest.

EEEEEE the second i read the rolls and saw that my CREATURE Vantablack helped their team WIN???? I had to write/draw something.... almost immediately! Unfortunately i was busy over the weekend (read the results on Friday) and then i got violently sick with a cold that left me pretty much bedridden on Tuesday and on low energy yesterday, so now we get a piece with spooky night forest vibes on Halloween, how fitting! (I'm feeling MUCH better though)

Also the purplish stuff on Vantablack's face is berry juice, there was a joke in server where Hendrick accidentally smeared berry juice on Vantablack's face while decorating the fort lol. It is canon now i've made it canon.
