Awww yiss, I think it's about time to upload some extra material, yes? So I think Bronycon 2015 was possibly the most active I've been when it comes to uploading completely colored illustrations/paintings. And it really made me remember how much I enjoy painting. SO! While the con season for me is over this year, I plan on traveling to many more cons the coming year. I figured it'd be a good idea to get started on some new prints and such for it, given some cons I'd like to go to starting at the beginning of the year. :3
Okay okay, so this time this is the WIP of a painting of Trixie! One of the characters I'm asked often about at my booth is Trixie and whether or not I have any merch of her. Next year I'm definitely gonna have something. c:< This lineart was done for Bronycon but like many of the paintings I planned (such as one I'm working on now), I wasn't able to finish it in time. That's okay though; just means new material for the coming conventions!
As far as the subject of the image goes, I always kinda figured Trixie as the lonely type. She's boastful, cocky, believes herself to be better than anyone else and has an air of superiority. But while I think half of that really is her true personality (specifically the cocky attitude and the believing she's better thing), I think a lot of that could be her way of hiding just how alone she is. When young she was probably left alone alot (still thinking up her overall back-story), she was probably popular in school but not in the way you'd want to be popular: used as a stepping stone to up your own social status or being kiss-asses to try and get something from you. And to protect herself from it she had to continue putting up the front that made her popular to begin with. She's top dog and you're the loser... but the "losers" are the ones that have what she wants: true companionship, people who like her for who she is and not what her reputation could gain them. The behavior continued into her showmare career and while she's a fantastic performer, her attitude outside her shows repels a lot of folks.
Trixie always realized this but it really turned into an epiphany of sorts when she encountered the Mane 6 and Ponyville as a whole. This image would take place a little after her second encounter with them, when she kinda makes amends with them and leaves the town for a while. Here she hunkers down for the night, but as her dinner cooks over a warm fire Trixie can't help but feel the loneliness really sink in this time.
I'll probably write more but that's all I have time for right now. o3o
