Princess Eilonwy's Palette Swap

Description

well after watching the "the black cauldron", "once upon a studio", playing disney magic kingdom and daydreaming of what I would have done if the black cauldron was include in kingdom hearts and if she was in pixar's ralph breaks the internet. I decided to do a palette swap for princess eilonwy, considering that her dress had been given multiple colors throughout the years. seem like they can't get the colors right.

say what you might, but to me, she’ll always be the number #4 in the princess lineup
------------------------------------

what i like about eilonwy

1. she's the first princess not to "madly fallen in love in first glance of the male lead".
2. first princess to actually rescue the male protagonist.
3. first princess to escape an ambush, which i must say, it's one of my favorite scene in the movie. i still can't believe those brute forces of the horned king would toss axe and spears at a 12 year old princess.
4. first to actually argue with the person who would become her love interest.
5. she doesn't sing a song, but rather try her best to get out of trouble.
6. she was highly supportive to taran when he was down, telling him he can still be someone without the magic sword, allowing him to realize that he doesn't need it to be great.
7. i also like that eilonwy and taran had a long development before they became a couple. from wanting to help eachother, to insulting one another, to apologizing, to trying not to make a bargain with a witch, to supporting one another in their saddest moment, to not wanting one to die and to never leave one another behind. i say this was the best development they could have ever had, that when gurgi force them to kiss, i would say "it's about time they kissed" XD.
------------------------------------

now let's focus on the main event, the outfits themselves.

the outfits.

Her basic palette swap - having light blonde hair with a black headband, long white puffy sleeves, a dark blue bodice with red lining, a pink skirt with the front layer open and black flat shoes. although in some scenes, her sleeves are shown to be light pink, these are often seen in dark rooms, but when she's outside, she has white sleeves, so it's safe to say they're white.

her blue promotion palette - likely suggested that at one point her dress was meant to be blue, her bodice now match the same color as her skirt when it's painted blue. as revealed in disney's magic kingdom, princess eilonwy's shoes in this palette swap were blue as well. also, her headband is blue and her hair is much yellow and brighter, but in disney magic kingdom, her hair is like her basic palette swap. some think that this appearance inspired Princess zelda's blue peasant outfit in a link to the past. and she does look a bit like Princess Daisy's sprite of the intro of the nes open golf tournament, which depicted her as a blonde with a blue dress.

her dorothy gale return to oz book design - shockingly, in one of the spanish book storie called "Oz, un mundo fantastico", it re-animates the 1985 disney movie "return to oz", the artist used eilonwy to represent dorothy gale. with some changes like her hair being redish and pigtailed. as well as having a simple light yellow dress with bows on her hair. quite coincidental seeing that both return to oz and the black cauldron were released the same year. the book has other disney characters playing some of the human characters. like alice from alice in wonderland playing as princess Ozma, lady tremaine from cinderella playing as nurse wilson and king hubert from sleeping beauty playing as the gnome king. quite a fun parody if you ask me. maybe i should do a list of the characters i think should've played who in the book, specially now that we have so many representative. maybe she can have this as an alternate outfit in disney magic kingdom as a "disguise" when in reality, it's a reference to this book.

her 1997 UK vhs cover palette - this one gives her light blue sleeves, a black bodice with the red lining, a red headband and a red skirt, since we never see her shoes, i kept them black. i didn't know about this one since i only had the 1998 US vhs cover version.

her 1998 US vhs cover palette - this one shows her with a more full pink palette, as well as giving her a pink headband and replacing the white for pink and the blue for magenta. since we can't see her shoes, i painted them pink to match. as for her hair, it's more golden here. i always said she looked like a combination of princess Peach and ocarina of time zelda's color swap when looking at this one. this was the vhs version I had throughout my childhood.

her 2000 vhs back cover gold classic palette - depicting her with white sleeves, black corset with pink lining, a pink headband and a purple skirt. i didn't know about this one since i only had the 1998 US vhs cover version.

her house of mouse palette - now at first i thought this was cinderella or aurora (aka sleeping beauty) when looking up close, but when i looked farther away, i did saw some resemblance to Eilonwy. I notice that her sleeves and bodice were designed in the same shape. as well as noticing that the other two princesses don't wear an outfit like that in the show (cinderella always wears her ballgown, aurora always wears her peasant girl dress, which is a different design), so i have no choice but to go along with the crowd and say this is eilonwy. since we don't see her skirt color, i just painted it black to match her bodice. also, her hair is more orange yellow here. if this is her, then she's not the only one who's miscolored in this show, as other characters are given wrong colors.

her once upon a studio palette - i assume they attempt to give her the original palette swap, but must have went with a darker shade when it came to her skirt, as for her bodice, it's now purple and her sleeves match the open part of her skirt. and her headband is now matches her shoes.
--------------------------------

so that's it for now. when i first made this, i thought she only had 3 different colors, but after rewatching all of her appearances, including promotion, i noticed that there were more, and here they are. so next time I'll do the Palette swap of the horned king, which i'm sure some of you would be surprise how he looks in those other colors.

if i were to give her a palette swap, it would have made her have orange red hair with a green teal dress. since her book counterpart "the chronicles of prydane" describes her with red hair. as for the green teal dress, i thought the color would have made her stand out more since there's already a lot of female wearing the color pink.

so tell me what you guys think.
