My pocket watch collection - wave 12

Sometimes, we need to catch a break and look around our surroundings to understand what motivates us to move forward. As I waited and waited to see what might cheer me up, I then realize that I needed to get myself up from the ashes and go antiquing like I did back then. Not only to find pocket watches, but to help motivate others in going into antique shops with me since everyone that joins me ends up finding a lot of stuff they thought they’d never own. Which brings me to wave 12, a unique wave of pocket watches, let’s gets started;

I first encountered this pocket watch at a watch store in Puerto Rico, but I didn’t bought it because the owner said it cost $400.00, so I pretended to take a photo and claim I wanted to take a photo and show it to my granddaddy in case he wanted it. In reality I took the photo to get the name right. I looked it up on eBay and it was $70.00. But I didn’t bought it, because I made the decision to only buys pocket watches in the antique stores. When I took my recent vacation, I noticed that the shop where I got pocket watch no.17 had moved 15 minutes away from where it was, i asked my sister to take me there, and just by coincidence, I bumped into the same bulova pocket watch I saw in Puerto Rico again and was surprised it was also at the same price on eBay. So I bought it and it became my 52nd in my collection. I guess if you see it come back for a third time, then buy it. Glad to have it in my collection.

I thought this vacation was going to be a bust, all because no one wanted to take me pocket watch hunting. However, my sister didn’t knew everyone ditched me, so she decided to take me antiquing in hope to find more pocket watches. Next thing I knew, I found this pocket watch hidden away. Despite it missing its bow, I still bought it, it worked like clockwork and had a beautiful pattern at the back. A perfect continuation.

So I didn’t want to come back with just two pocket watches, I decided to buy a third one, coming from the same shop as the other two, this one was well hidden cause the store owners didn’t knew they had it. Despite looking worn out and rusty, I wanted it, cause I said it looked more vintage and had more history than the previous two watches. I happily bought it and am grateful to have it on my collection.

On the last full day of my vacation, I was desperate to find more pocket watches, luckily I was able to find another pocket watch for a descent price. This one seems to had better days, it’s the largest of wave 12 and I’m grateful that it’s a Westclox. Hopefully I can find more like these if I ever go back.

It’s been months since I had a small pocket watch. This one is even tinier than my 8th small green floral pocket watch, to my surprise, it’s a wind up clock, as well as a 15 jeweler, who knew something so small could also be capable to hold so many mechanical gears. I placed it on the middle so the larger ones of wave 12 would surround it. It has the name Ramona in it, so i have to see what’s the significance of that name to the watch. Anyway, it’s still a cute watch and it runs perfectly.

A more royal looking pocket watch, it has a shield decorated with flowers and a ribbon that suggests it’s attached behind the shield. At the back, another ribbon is attached, making it look like it’s the scarf the royal wear on their royal events. Sadly this pocket watch is slightly damaged, but I liked how it looks like it’s made out of copper and how steampunk it looks. I still need to fix its lock so its door / shield won’t stay open. I don’t know why, but this pocket watch makes me think of queen victoria.

A pocket watch that came on the last minute, on the final day when I only bought no.55, 56 and 57. I was surprised when the store owner presented this watch to me and how to open it. This is the first time I’ve ever owned a Hamilton pocket watch, a very rare find. And with that, Hamilton closed wave 12 with a whopping 7 pocket watches, an amount that hasn’t been repeated since wave 1. It has writing on the back that say “Christmas 1916” and I need to secure it’s glass a bit, so let’s see how it goes in the future.

so that’s it for wave 12, the only wave where all the pocket watches are both wind up & are bought on antique stores. Hopefully, I can continue this collection in the future. I’m not getting any younger, although people say I haven’t been getting older either XD.

But I do hope I can travel to new places in the future and find more of them. According to my relatives, there are a lot of antique stores in Pennsylvania with a lot of pocket watches, so it’s best that my next trip should be there, But we just have to see. Also, wave 13 already started, with 2 pocket watches m coming all the way from Europe. But I shouldn’t say more, or I will spoil the surprise.
