The hallway in the DoD was dressed up with fake plants and several pictures of past men that had served as the SecDef for the United States over the past few decades. It was like looking at a time capsule. The furniture, paint, and decor was antiqued and civil. It was like it had never been changed in the last forty years—save for the carpet design. Chapter 4: Time is Running Out The sound of gunfire was ringing throughout the enclosed space of General Cutwell’s military command vehicle. Well trained soldiers were carefully picking their shots at the smaller white spiders that were beginning to pour into the damaged stronghold. Although, several of the military personnel had unfortunately fallen to the enemy. One bite from the spiders seemed to be more than enough for a nearly instant death within minutes for a normal human. Their venom was quick. It coagulated the blood and destroyed flesh. The heart was sent into shock and was forced to shut down; thereby ending the life of the arachnid’s prey.
