With limited ease
He squeezed
Through the crevasse
And though he had,
At length,
Conjectured
And proposed
That he’d been alone
It was only now, in this
Dark,
       Dank,
               Cavern
That he realized his fears had come to fruition
His suspicion confirmed
He was
        Utterly

                         Alone.

Upon further inspection
He noticed the mouths of several tunnels
Each branching in a different direction
And after brief reflection
Of the journey so far
He committed.
Jagged stones protruded into his path
But did little to delay his intrusion.
He pushed further into the darkness
Until he had to struggle just to see his hands before his face.
And then

       he

             fell…

The momentary descent ached
With every fiber of his being,
He ached.
He had been falling for hours, only to end with an abrupt
Thud.

He found himself in an incredible abyss
Endless
Only made discernible
By a singular glow
Emitted by an orb that hung,
Suspended
In the center of the cavern.

Through great effort he climbed
Slowly
To his feet.
Entranced by the glow
Helpless to its power
He proceeded with a vagrant disregard
For caution.
His safety was of no consequence.
Every step pained him,
Yet he pushed on.
Blood
Began to perspire from his temples
As he became stricken with a
Light-headedness
That only accentuated his
Delirium
And
Euphoria.
He was so close.
With an incredible strain,
He reached for the orb.
With every centimeter closer he advanced
His hands burned.
They burned
Hotter than any fire he could ever fathom.

Then.

He achieved his desire.

And everything he had ever known
Was one.
