Man the last four weeks has been crazy as fuck! And to think this whole controversy started with one drawing of one of the Sonic characters I submitted back in early May. I've been involved with unnecessary drama and unexpectedly received a diatribe just for trying to join a group last weekend. Man the Sonic fans lately really haven't been very kind to me no matter what I did, and none of them can seem to give me a break for once. They've been treating me like a beetle.
I'm sorry I make these kinds of journals, but I just really have to talk about one more problem that I'm having to set all of this straight. I wanted to post this journal before I continue working on more art so I could clear one particular issue up with a lot of you fans. I wanted to clear up something else that those certain fans of Sonic have against my Sonic drawings, because some of these fans not only seem to have a problem with me as a person, they also have a problem with how I draw certain characters.
You remember when I said in my apology journal that I was accused of having a fetish for drawing a certain Sonic character a certain way? Well, one Sonic fan (not saying the name) told me that my drawings of certain female characters drawn with "huge hips" and certain male characters with "huge muscles" are unsettling and that the characters have "an air of innocence around them". This person apparently finds female characters with curvy hips and male characters with buff physiques "inappropriate", and that just confused me.
And this is where I ask this significant question. How exactly does drawing certain female characters with shapely hips and drawing certain male characters with thick muscles strip away their "air of innocence around them"? How is it considered "inappropriate" too? Now you folks remember back in late 2016 when I made that journal of ten adjectives to describe the Sonic fans in a nutshell? Yeah, one of the adjectives for this particular example is "nitpicky"!
So apparently, drawing any type of female curvy or any type of male character muscular is considered a "fetish" or "oversexualizing them for your own pleasure". This is what really annoys the fuck out of me with Sonic fans like these. They nitpick over the propriety of the characters' anatomy. So whenever they see other Sonic characters drawn with different anatomy styles, as opposed to their original anatomy design, they flip the fuck out and accuse the person of "oversexualizing" the character. No! If I was "oversexualizing the character because I have a fetish", I'd draw the character naked and exposing a certain inappropriate body part, as well as dress that character in a rather skimpy outfit.
I do NOT draw certain Sonic characters with a different anatomy because I have a "fetish"! I do it because I felt that the Sonic characters need more distinctive anatomy designs. Because I'ma be honest, the anatomy of the Sonic characters are all homogeneous. They're just drawn with simple oval torsos with stick-figured arms and legs with oversized hands and shoes. The only disparities are their heads, skin color, and choice of clothing. I just simply decided to tweak their anatomy a bit to make them appear more diverse. I gave Knuckles some large biceps to make him appear more badass. I mean he is a brawler after all, and I thought I'd make his design more hardcore in my style by making him appear muscular. I gave Blaze some shapely hips and bust to give her more of that mature, feminine charm, you know, have her appear more elegant to balance out her tomboyish traits. Plus she's fully clothed and I never even made her bust that huge either. I just made them more shapely and prominent. How is any of that shit considered "inappropriate" as opposed to "innocent"?
Apparently, according to these kinds of Sonic fans who want them to have "an air of innocence around them", any female character who's drawn with shapely hips and an ample bosom, even when they're fully-fucking-clothed, are "oversexualized" (never mind the fact that Rouge the fucking Bat is already designed with shapely hips and a large bosom to begin with). I don't draw ALL the female characters this way. Notice how I haven't given Cream the Rabbit this anatomy in any of my drawings of her, because I know she's still a six-year-old girl who hasn't hit puberty yet. So it would be wrong for me to give her or any other female character under the age of 12 prominent boobs, even if they were small.
And while we're on this topic, one of the other fans even had a conversation with one of my RL friends with an account here, and my friend told me that Sonic fan doesn't like my own feline cartoon character because....of her anatomy! That's just what my friend told me. The Sonic fan he had a conversation with didn't like how I drew my feline OC with an ample bosom and wide hips, because it apparently associates with the "slutty lady" trope. Here's another thing that annoys the fuck out of me. The misuse of certain words. I really wish people would pick up a dictionary these days. A "slut" is a woman who has had sexual intercourse with many different casual sexual partners. So unless I decide to make my own character have sex with other men (which you won't see explicitly in this cartoon), then she's not a fucking slut! For fuck's sake, she's fully-fucking-clothed! Here's a link of her for those who are curious:
See?! Nothing is revealing! How does she even look remotely "slutty"?
As for the complaint that I've gotten by giving certain male characters "huge muscles", I only gave those to Vector and Knuckles. As I said before, I made Knuckles appear muscular to make him look more badass and hardcore. As for Vector, he's the muscle of the trio, so I simply thought I could emphasis that by making his arms bulkier and his chest wider. I mean sure, I made Shadow appear somewhat muscular too, but I still kept him slightly leaner. I never did that with the other male characters! Instead, I just simply make their arms and legs slightly thicker so they don't appear too thin. I really don't change the anatomy of the characters too much.
Some of the female Sonic fans seem to have a problem with the way I draw female characters, saying I have some sort of fetish and oversexualize females for my own pleasure. Oh yeah, because how dare I give a certain female character a more elegant anatomy that would complement her maturity and/or beauty. Concurrently, a few others also complain about me giving the male characters "huge muscles". Yes, because giving certain male Sonic characters bulging biceps is all of a sudden an egregious sign of stigma that goes against the apparent "air of innocence" around the Sonic characters. Meanwhile, these same fans don't say jack shit to the guys who draw most of these Sonic characters in the nude revealing inappropriate body parts.
You know what? while I'm on this topic, let's digress for a moment and talk about the so-called "innocence" of the franchise for a minute, shall we? The franchise and characters have an air of innocence around them, huh? Yeah, because an anthropomorphic bat seducing other guys for their jewels (as well as her exposed cleavage) definitely exemplifies innocence impeccably. Yeah, I definitely can see that.
And so does a black hedgehog (who, need I remind you, has a game of his own rated T for Teen that makes even the Tony Hawk games look more squeaky clean in juxtaposition and can almost even rival the Grand Theft Auto games) using lethal weapons to kill his enemies. Yep, that's another obvious sign of "air of innocence around these characters".
Also, need I remind you that the whole Sonic Adventures 2 game (hell a few other games as well) has tons of radar-breaking innuendos? (just take a look yourself: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php…
) But naw, none of you folks notice any of this shit, because the characters of the whole Sonic franchise apparently have "an air of innocence around them".
In all seriousness though, the only character of the whole Sonic franchise that truly has any genuine "innocence" is Cream the Rabbit. The Sonic franchise and many of its characters can be a lot of things. "Innocent" is hardly one of them.
But I think I've digressed enough. In conclusion, the whole point of this journal was to clear the bullshit of the artist named Demetrius here having a "fetish" for drawing female characters with curves and male characters with bulging biceps. I swear, you just can't do jack shit anymore to please certain Sonic fans! I'm sorry I've been really angry lately. I'm just tired of dealing with most of these belligerent Sonic fans who want to try to beef with me over trivial topics! It's really causing my sanity to dissipate. Of course, that's probably what I get for being a part of the Sonic fandom in the first place. So I guess it's my own damn fault! Listen, folks! I can take criticism, and if I do screw up on a character's anatomy or if something looks a little off, I can simply take a second look and realize my mistake (and if I had the chance, I'd fix that mistake). But when most other females overreact over the most trivial bullshit such as this, it's another thing that annoys the fuck out of me. But while we're on this topic, I want to know the thoughts of some of you other female artists. Do you like how I draw most female characters curvy? Are you uncomfortable with me drawing most females that way? If you are, I would love to hear your issues on it. Do you feel it's disrespectful towards females? If you do, please provide reasons why. And what are your thoughts on me drawing certain male characters muscly? I'd also like to hear some of you guys' thoughts about this controversy. I don't want to upset any of your females out there. I just want to know so I can try to understand the problems you have with it, because some of the others just won't get off my back about this shit and it aggravates me to no end. Feel free to leave your thoughts down below. I would love to hear them.
