(This is from a live show performance of the Wisconsin 4-H Drama Company of which I'm a part of. This poem was written and performed by me.)
Happiness is the sun in morning after a night of crying yourself to sleep
Happiness is finally paying off your debt after 15 years of student loans
Happiness is realising that empathy is the only way
Happiness is knowing that you are not alone in your suffering, that the whole world is bleeding out with you
Happiness is not half-hearted laughs and hollow words
Happiness Is not a hello, It’s a goodbye
Happiness is an old friend that doesn't stay long but always comes back
Happiness Is that fleeti
Is it folly to mourn for those you’ve never met?
Or perhaps for those who've never met you?
Thousands of hours of meeting them,
of them never meeting you
the real question is do they inspire you
do they empower you?
do they make you laugh?
do they comfort you in times of need?
What does it mean to know someone so completely
so utterly yet not be known yourself
what does it mean to befriend a stranger on T.V.?
in a book?
in a poem?
in a tale?
It means you are not alone in mourning
It means hundreds
if not thousands
if not millions of people are all mourning at once
all feeling that great loss of the friend they’ve never met
I'm fairly new to writing things like this so please keep that In mind!
