i like this color and texture contrasts, again, very visually engaging. The image is slightly off horizontal, though, maybe if it got straightened so it didn't have that sliiiiight feel of being off? [/OCD]

you are right, but so am i, "slightly off"(literally and figuratively), the retrofit of the green house has been an architectural challenge of marrying the disparate old and new and by cutting out and creating new spaces which are neither horizontal nor vertically correct within the dome of the arched ceiling. It is interesting how the slate of the Rumford fireplace somehow matches and contradicts the adobe. However,the choice of material was made to enhance heat conservation as it is on the South facing wall.

*grin* "slightly off" was referring more to the lines than the choice of material... it is an interesting combination, though. It's always interesting to me how little things like that vary from city to city, region to region - some choices are arbitrary, "mere" culture, but others have deep roots and are reacting directly to the surrounding environment.
