NIGHTMARE MOON RETURNS, IS DEFEATED
Princess Luna Restored As Co-Ruler
By Blossom Lunge, Ponyville Gazette
PONYVILLE - Nightmare Moon held Her Royal Majesty Princess Celestia captive in the sun for twelve hours yesterday before being defeated, according to officials.
The villain of legend attempted to co-opt the land of Equestria at the Summer Sun Celebration in Ponyville yesterday, says royal spokespony Rhumba Starshimmer.
Princess Celestia's younger sister Her Royal Highness Princess Luna became Nightmare Moon 1000 years ago in a failed insurrection intended to bring eternal night, according to ancient legend.
She was imprisoned in the moon for a millenium and became known as the Mare In The Moon in foals' tales.
Her escape was long prophesied to occur yesterday, said Twilight Sparkle, a scholar and Celestia's personal protégée at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns.
Officials have not publicly explained why preparations were not made in advance of the imminent threat to national security and agriculture.
Nightmare Moon was magically restored to her former self, says Sparkle. The method of Nightmare Moon's defeat has not been disclosed, although the Elements of Harmony mentioned in legend are rumored to have been used.
Celestia pardoned Luna for time served and restored her throne and authority over night and the moon, according to Starshimmer.
Celestia, who raises the sun each morning and until today raised the moon each night, requests that all ponykind afford her sister the same trust and devotion due the elder princess herself.
"The past millenium's advances in Equestrian society and international relations will necessarily require Princess Luna to ease back into affairs of state," said Starshimmer. "Suitable tutors of all gaits of life have been asked to lend a hoof in getting Her Royal Highness back up to speed."
"That gal's alright. Go watch the moon rise tonight and clop your hooves, show her your lovin'," said Sapphire Shores, pop musician.
The sometimes controversial star noted the nightlife culture that has emerged in the past fifty years should prevent another "sororicidal outbreak of jealousy."

Luna's Best Night Ever: 3
Luna pulled the last of the confetti from her mane and tail. She sighed and tossed it over the side of the chariot, watching the colorful paper drift away. Celestia had given her a proper sending off, complete with banners saying things like "Do your best!" and "Go, Luna, go!" Luna wondered whether her sister was using her pranks and outrageousness as a coping mechanism or a punishment. Possibly both, she mused, a hoof resting on the suitcase where her own coping mechanism lay. She had insisted that Abby's suitcase remain by her side for the duration of the trip and managed to keep even Celly from seeing inside it.

Luna's Best Night Ever
It was the night of the Grand Galloping Gala and Princess Luna was thoroughly flustered. She stood in front of her mirror, pouting at her own reflection. Celestia had gone to great lengths to set the evening up for her, lowering the sun early and helping her to raise the moon and coerce the stars out of hiding so she would have time to prepare herself. She had even taken the liberty of personally greeting every guest on her behalf so that Luna wouldn't have an excuse to escape from the party itself.
Luna adjusted her tiara and smoothed out the dress Celestia had picked out for her for the fifth time in as many minutes. She frowned a little a

The Summer Sun Celebration
Over a thousand years ago, Princesses Celestia and Luna worked together to rule the land of Equestria in harmony. That is, until Luna became jealous of Celestia because everypony was sleeping during her night. This says loads about Equestria: the day and night are not mandated by actual physics, but rather two super-powerful alicorns literally changing the time of day. This also suggests that the moon doesn't have a regular lunar cyc

My journalism teacher got a kick out of it, and liked the "censored" version that followed.

I'm taking journalism as the required communications course for my 2-year degree. We're taught to have at least two, preferably three sources, for each article.
Sapphire Shores is the Gaga shoutout pony. She's a shrewd businesswoman as well as a talented performer/writer. She scheduled the Ponyville stop on her concert tour for the night of the Summer Sun Celebration; all that extra tourism might as well include some of her fans.
