CUTS TO :
28 - EXT - VARIOUS LOCATIONS - DAYTIME
We now see some of the locations on the mainline completely iced over, for a few moments. Then we see a few other locations that aren’t so bad, as they’re starting to thaw out, as some passengers are waiting at one of the stations that are shown.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
It had been a brutal couple of months, due to a few massive snow storms since Christmas. But, the worst of this winter was over. The weather started to get warm near the end of March of 1997, and different places along Crotoonia’s mainline were beginning to thaw. And this was really good news to us engines.

We see Montana slowly pulling out of Celgreb City Central, pulling some green and cream express coaches. We also see Georgia waiting to depart too with two Red American Coaches, Big Freighter Pete is waiting for his goods train of mixed vans to be loaded up by some workmen and Jebediah is having some of the milk churns on his milk churn cars be unloaded.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
It meant that along with our usual jobs. . .

The Breakdown Cranes at the mainland bridge construction site, operated by Doc and Mary, are seen swinging and lowering the giant blocks of stone into place. The bridge is now further across than it was before.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
. . .The construction of the new bridge to the mainland could be continued as well!

We see Big Tim hauling stone cars through Cliffstone Junction, Jason hauling open wagons filled with new sleepers through Great Wolf Forest, and Humphrey hauling flatbeds of new rails through Kahlville Junction.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
And Mr. Peterson had chosen a team to help deliver the materials to the constriction site : Big Tim was to haul the loads of stone from the quarry, Jason was to deliver the sleepers from the logging camps in the mountains, and Humphrey was to deliver the new rails from the steelworks in Bluthsburgh. I’ve gotta say, they performed admirably with their duties.

We then see Humphrey and Big Freighter Pete double heading a long heavy freight train of different freight cars from both America and United Kingdom and Montana and Sasha are seem pulling coaches. Montana’s line of coaches are longer than Sasha’s. Montana is then seen passing Farnsworth as he’s pulling his usual commuter service before also passing GORDON THE EXPRESS ENGINE and SPENCER THE PRIVATE ENGINE, both just acting as cameos as this scene is from the future.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
While they were helping with the bridge building, Mr. Peterson assigned some of us with extra duties. Humphrey and Pete would double head extra long goods trains and pull them along the line from Celgreb to Gridinia while Sasha and Montana would help with some of the passenger trains. Of course, as Montana was a much stronger engine than Sasha,, he would pull extra coaches and was able to get his passengers right on time. One thing we discovered up to this point about Montana is when it comes to his work, he wasn’t even half as snooty as Farnsworth or any other engine we have on our line these days. He’s what you might call a gentle giant. He’s very kind to everyone he meets and tries to help them with whatever problems they may have

CUTS TO :
29 - EXT - CELGREB CITY YARDS - MID AFTERNOON
Montana is seen arriving in the yards close to the sheds to refuel with coal and water as he’s running low. Emma’s sitting in the small goods shed near a workman's hut that’s also close to one of the water towers and coaling stations. She’s looking a little sad.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
I remember one of his kind moments taking place during Spring Break of that very year. Montana had been working very hard all morning and early afternoon, after taking passengers from Celgreb to Gridinia and back again, and needed to top up on both coal and water before making his final round trip for the day.

Montana is looking quite pleased for a few moments.

MONTANA
(inhales before speaking)
Ahhh. Another successful roundtrip.

MONTANA’S DRIVER
Indeed. The passengers were certainly singing their praises to you. But, don’t let it go to your smokebox.

MONTANA
(laughs)
Don’t worry. I’m not a snob like Farnsworth.

Montana then notices Emma, looking ever so sad.

MONTANA
Hello. Something’s up with Emma.

MONTANA’S FIREMAN
(peering out from Montana’s cab)
What do you suppose is up?

MONTANA
I don’t know, but I’m gonna find out.

Montana changes tracks to Emma’s line and stops with his tender next to the water tower. He looks ahead of Emma, and tries to get her attention.

MONTANA
Emma? (pause) (a little louder) Emma?!

Emma doesn’t seem to hear him as she stares down at her buffers.

MONTANA
(a little bit louder)
Emma?!

She still doesn’t look up. Montana then blows his whistle to get her attention, which finally works. She nearly jumps and looks up in surprise.

EMMA
(surprised)
Oh! Montana! You-you scared me!

MONTANA
Sorry. I tried to get your attention for the past few moments, but you never responded.

EMMA
(sadly)
Oh. Sorry, Montana. I’m just……..feeling a little...sad.

MONTANA
How come?

EMMA
It-it’s nothing.

MONTANA
Emma, I know that it’s not “nothing”. Otherwise, you wouldn’t look like you’ve broken down. Now, come on. Let’s have it.

EMMA
(sighs sadly before speaking)
Well, Jim left this morning.

MONTANA
What? When?

EMMA
(sadly)
Right after you left with your regular service.

Montana’s Fireman starts filling up Montana’s tender with water.

MONTANA
Well, what happened?

EMMA
Well, he packed up two suitcases and left for Celgreb Bay Harbour by bus this morning.

MONTANA
Any reason why he left? Or even where he went?

EMMA
(sadly)
(sighs) No idea.

Montana blinks a little before he spoke.

MONTANA
What? You don’t know?

EMMA
Well….no. Not really.

MONTANA
Hmm. Did you ever ask?

EMMA
Uhhhh…….

MONTANA
Well, then it’s high time we both got to the bottom of this.

Montana then calls out towards the workman’s hut.

MONTANA
(calling out)
Luke?! You there?!

A voice replies from inside the hut.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
(calling back)
Be out in a minute!

A few moments later, LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER comes out of the hut, looking up at Montana.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
You called, Montana?

MONTANA
Yeah. Where did Jim go?

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
He went back to Morrowland to visit our friends and his adoptive mother.

MONTANA
How long will he be gone?

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Well, he should be returning to Crotoonia on Sunday. Why do you ask?

MONTANA
Well, I believe Emma' s been in the dark on the subject.

Luke looks at Emma, a little puzzled.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Emma? Is this true?

EMMA
Yeah…...I'm afraid so.

Luke then surprised.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Wait. Didn't I tell you about this?

EMMA
No, you never did.

Luke then has a dumbfounded before palm smacking himself in the face.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Well, twist my tracks! I thought I told you about Jim’s trip. I'm so sorry. I feel terrible for not realizing this.

Emma smiles a little bit, feeling a little better.

EMMA
It's okay, Luke. I know you didn't do it on purpose.

Luke pats Emma on her boiler, looking down at her. Emma then looks up at him.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
You miss Jim, don't ya?

EMMA
Yeah….I do.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Well, don't you worry, old girl. He'll be back before you know it.

EMMA
You...you really think so?

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
(chuckles before speaking)
I know so. Just because he left, doesn’t mean he’ll be gone for long. Don’t forget. We’re a team..

EMMA
(smiling)
You know somethin’? You’re absolutely right! Jim’ll be back. I’d bet a week’s worth of coal on it!

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Now that’s the spirit!

Montana is smiling, watching the two of them being really happy.

MONTANA
I’m glad Emma is happy again.

Montana then remembers something as his fireman closes up the filler cap on Montana's tender.

MONTANA
Emma? Luke? Could you please shunt my coaches from platform 3 to platform 1 as soon as you can? I’ll be heading back to the station as soon as I top up with coal.

EMMA
Sure thing, Montana!

Luke then walks over to Emma’s cab and climbs in.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
We’ll get right on it!

MONTANA
Great!

Montana then backs up to a set of points that lead to a coaling tower on the other side of the goods sheds. The points change and Montana changes lines.

MONTANA
There you two go!

Emma toots her whistle and chugs past Montana towards the station.

MONTANA
(smiling)
Yes, Emma. I’ll bet Jim’ll be back before you know it.

CUTS TO :
30 - EXT - CELGEB CITY CENTRAL/CELGREB CITY YARDS - DAYTIME
Emma is now seen shunting coaches and freight cars into different platforms at different times of the day. She’s much cheerful as she watches Luke uncouple the cars and coaches she shunts into the station before a few moments later reverses back up the track to fetch the next train.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
Hearing that Jim would be returning to Crotoonia Sunday, certainly put some extra puff into Emma’s pistons. Of course, she knew that if she just waited in the shed until Sunday, it would seem like months until Jim’s return. So, she stayed focused on her station pilot duties, which seemed to help the time go by much faster, although she really wished Sunday would be upon them already cause she couldn’t wait for the trio to be back together again.

CUTS TO :
31 - EXT - CELGREB CITY YARDS - NIGHT
All the engines except Cerberus and Emma are in the engine shed. Cerberus is nowhere to be seen and Emma is sitting in the goods shed where JIM BUTTON is sitting on a upside down bucket while Luke is sitting on a heavy duty metal bucket, both next to Emma who is over the moon to have Jim back.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
And sure enough, as Luke had told Emma, Jim did return on Sunday. And that night in the yards, all three of them told each other about what happened during their absences.

JIM BUTTON
So there we were, being pursued by this band of pirates. Their cannons kept on firing at us. For a moment, we all thought we were going to be captured.

EMMA
(gasps before speaking)
Then what happened?

JIM BUTTON
Well, fortunately for us, The Wild 13 came along and managed to fight them off.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
(chuckles)
Boy, it was sure a good thing they came along when they did. Who knows what might’ve happened if they hadn’t

JIM BUTTON
I know, right? It’s certainly great to have friends to come to your aid like that.

EMMA
Yep. So, how’s Princess Li Si, Molly, all our friends back in Morrowland doin’?

JIM BUTTON
Oh, it was wonderful to be with Li Si again. She’s planning on coming to visit us here every once in a while.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
That’s great, Jim!

JIM BUTTON
It sure is, Luke! Everyone back in Morrowland is doing wonderfully well. And it was great driving Molly again. But…..

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
But what, Jim?

JIM BUTTON
Well, as wonderful as it was driving Molly again, seeing Molly and hearing her whistle reminded me of you two. And, I missed being with you both.

EMMA
Aww shucks, Jim. We miss having you here, with us.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Emma was feeling mighty depressed when you left for Morrowland. But with a little help from Montana, she knew you’d be back. And that got her back on track.

JIM BUTTON
Well, that’s good to hear. Oh, speaking of tracks, how’s the work on the bridge to the mainland coming along? Is it almost finished?

EMMA
Well, the construction and delivery team have been working tirelessly delivering the building materials and laying them into place. Mr. Peterson says that with any luck, the construction should be finished in time for the grand opening June 30th.

JIM BUTTON
I see.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Yep. Well, we should hit the sack now. We’ll be busy fetching everyone’s trains tomorrow.

JIM BUTTON
Right, Luke!

Jim and Luke get up and walk towards the hut.

JIM BUTTON
Night, Emma!

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
See ya in the mornin’!

EMMA
Night, fellas!

Jim and Luke enter the hut and close the door. Emma smiles, gazing up at the full moon.

EMMA
(sighs happily)
Yep. The gang’s all back together again.

Emma dozes off a few moments before the scene changes.

CUTS TO :
32 - EXT - VARIOUS LOCATIONS - DAYTIME
We see Emma bringing some Red Branch Line Coaches to Platform 2 at Celgreb City Central as Montana is departing with Green And Cream Express Coaches and Georgia is arriving with a small goods train. We also see Big Freighter Pete pulling some flatbeds of rails along the line in Great Wolf Forest as Shelbert is passing by with some conflats carrying crates, Big Tim is seen passing through the quarry/logging camp junction with quarry cars filled with stone while Jason is waiting for the right of way with some open wagons of sleepers, and Humphrey racing through Kahlville Junction with a train of hopper wagons, topped up with ballast. And then we see Doc and Mary continuing to help the workmen lay down rails with the Breakdown Crane as the workmen drive in the spikes.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
And indeed it was great that all three of them were back together again. The had a lot of trains that were coming and going. Of course, they weren't the only ones that were working hard to make sure all trains went out on time. Everyone that was involved with the bridge’s construction were working back to back shifts to get their goods delivered to the construction site on time. Heh, I’ve never seen engine work so hard for such an important task. They were working so hard that not only were they getting quite dizzy, their axles ached. And not just the engines. The workmen Doc and Mary were assisting with laying down rails were working so hard, they had to take half hour breaks due to getting exhausted.

Then the scene changes to show the last rail spike being driven into the track on the other side of the bridge, as some people on the mainland side came to watch.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
But before anyone knew it, the bridge was finally complete on June 26th of that very year.

CUTS TO :
33 - EXT - CELGREB CITY ROUNDHOUSE - EVENING
Scene changes to see most of the engines gathered in the shed as Dan Peterson stands on a crate so everyone can see him.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
And the evening on that very day, Mr. Peterson gathered most of the engines together in the shed for a special announcement.

DAN PETERSON
Alright engines. Listen up . I have an announcement to make. After many months of hard work, the bridge to the mainland is finally finished, in time for its grand opening on Sunday.

Whistles and horns from the engines in the sheds respond to this in the form of cheering.

DAN PETERSON
(shouts)
Settle down, all of you!

Then it subsides before Dan Peterson continues.

DAN PETERSON
Thank you. Now, as I was saying, the bridge has been finished and we’ll be having a special treat to help celebrate the bridge’s grand opening.

SASHA
What sort of special, sir?

DAN PETERSON
A special tourist train from Celgreb City Central to Gridinia Bay and back again. Our special guests will wanna take pictures of all the sites along the main line.

GEORGIA
And who’ll be taking the special train, sir?

FARNSWORTH
It should be me. I’m the finest engine on Crotoonia, and I’m sure the passengers will wanna take pictures of me as an extra treat.

DAN PETERSON
I think not, Farnsworth.

FARNSWORTH
But sir-.

DAN PETERSON
No buts, Farnsworth! I want a reliable engine who won’t let this job go to either their smokebox or radiator. Which is why I’m choosing Montana to take the train.

MONTANA
Thank you, sir. It’d be an honor. I’ll make you proud.

DAN PETERSON
Wait, there’s more. The main line’s expansion continues all the way up to Boston. You’ll be taking me up to there to meet up with the stationmaster and the controller of the railway over there to sign off the paperwork to make the connection official in a couple days.

JEBEDIAH
That’d bring more business for our railway that way.

DAN PETERSON
Yes, Jebediah. That’s the general idea. The rest of you will have normal schedules for that day. Be really useful that day. That’ll impress our visitors so much, they’ll tell their friends, and their friends will tell their friends and….well…(chuckles before speaking), you get the idea.

CASEY JR/TILLIE/TRACY/MINERVA/GEORGIA/DOC/MARY/JEBEDIAH/BIG FREIGHTER PETE/HUMPHREY/RODRICK/JODI/SHELBERT/RODNEY/ADELINE/EMMELINE/TOOTS/TOOTLE/
EMMA/JOHNNY/BIG OLD RUSTY/MONTANA/BIG TIM/JASON/SASHA
Yes sir!

DAN PETERSON
Excellent. I know this might sound a little cheesy, but you’re all the best engines I ever had the pleasure into being their controller. Make me proud, all of you.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
We all vowed to do our very best to make our controller as proud as he can be for that very day.

CUTS TO :
34 - EXT - CELGREB CITY CENTRAL - MORNING
We see the dawn breaking as we span down over Celgreb City Central where Emma is seen shunting some Green and Cream Express Coaches into platform 1. The coaches are shining with a fresh coat of paint they received the previous day, and they are very happy for the trip they’ll be taken on. Casey Jr, Tillie, and Tracy are waiting on platform 3 to set off for Kahlville Junction, as they were assigned to work there for the day.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
And before we knew it, the big day arrived. While most of us were getting topped up with coal, water, and oil, Emma was bringing Montana’s freshly painted coaches while Casey Jr, Tillie and Tracy were waiting to set off for Kahlville Junction to work there for the day.

Emma slows to a crawl and brings the coaches to a gentle stop.

EMMA
And….there! You lot are in position.

Jim Button walks out of Emma’s cab and sets to work uncoupling Emma from the coaches.

EMMA
Are you lot ready for your special trip?

GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #1
Indeed we are, Emma. It’s gonna be a fantastic trip.

GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #2
Indeed it is. The best part of all is that we get to spend the whole day with the most polite engine to ever pull us.

Then, we hear a familiar voice coming alongside platform 2, followed by a slow puffing sound.

MONTANA
The most polite engine? You ladies wouldn’t be talking about me, would you?

Montana is seen puffing along platform 2 and stops between Casey Jr and the first express coach.

MONTANA
By the way, you ladies are looking especially lovely today. What with that new coat of paint and all.

GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #1
Oh Montana, you charmer.

GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #2
Of course we’re talking about you.

GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #3
We’re really looking forward to our round trip today.

GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #4
Especially since our engine today will be you.

CASEY JR
I gotta admit, Montana. You’re so polite and kind to all, it’s no wonder those coaches enjoy going out with you, day and night.

MONTANA
(chuckles before speaking)
Yes, Casey Jr. I know I am. It’s a little trick I learned from an engine that visited my old line many years ago during a world tour. Flying Scotsman, I believe his name was.

TRACY
Hold on! Not the world famous Flying Scotsman all the way from the U.K.!

MONTANA
(smiling)
The very same. The trick he taught me is if you’re kind to the coaches, they’ll help make the journey much smoother. If you treat them roughly, the journey’ll be much more difficult.

TILLIE
Then It’s a miracle Farnsworth’s able to move his coaches at all without problems.

All the engines, Luke and Jim, and the coaches laugh at this.

CASEY JR/TILLIE/TRACY/MONTANA/EMMA/LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER/JIM BUTTON/GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #1/GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #2/GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #3/GREEN AND CREAM EXPRESS COACH #4
(laughing for a few moments)

MONTANA
(sighs before speaking)
Well, he tries. Even though I’d hate to admit it, he’s one of the best passenger engines we have on our line.

CASEY JR
But you’re the best engine we have here. Not even the three of us put together could even come remotely close to your top speed.

MONTANA
Well, pardon me for saying this, but don’t you three yourselves short. Just because you lot are little engines, doesn't mean you aren’t able to handle jobs bigger engines can.

TILLIE
You do make a pretty good point, Montana. I’m the smallest engine on my team from our old line from the mainland, and I was able to handle a train that a bigger engine could easily manage.

MONTANA
Precisely my point. Just think little engine can do big things, and you’ll be able to do anything you set your mind to. I’d bet my coupling rods on it.

Montana then looks at the station clock.

MONTANA
Well, I think I’d better get into place. Those two trains from the mainland will be here soon with our visitors.

Montana blows his whistle before pulling ahead towards the points just beyond the platforms.

CASEY JR
And we’d better set off so this platform is clear for-.

Casey then sees something on Montana’s line that makes him wide eyed.

CASEY JR
Trembling tenders! (shouts out loud) MONTANA! LOOK OUT!

MONTANA
Huh?

He looks ahead of him before the points to see 10 freight cars and a caboose racing towards him at a tremendous speed.

MONTANA
(shouts)
FUMBLING FENDERS!!!!

He manages to get his front half to change tracks, but his tender is still on the same track as the runaway train.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
Montana only managed to get halfway to the other track, when disaster struck.

CRASH! The caboose smashes into Montana’s tender, making it come right off the rails and knocking it hard onto its side and spilling Montana’s coal and water everywhere! Some of the freight cars then smash to pieces, spilling their cargo all over track, causing a great big mess! Everyone in the station gasp in horror, even Dan Peterson who has just arrived to witness the accident.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
Luckily, no one was hurt, but Montana’s tender was really banged up, and the station was in a terrible mess.

Dan Peterson comes rushing up to Montana’s front.

DAN PETERSON
My goodness, Montana! Are you all right?

MONTANA
I….I think so. Where did this runaway train come from?

Casey Jr pulls up alongside, almost coming face to face with a busted tank wagon. He looks at all the cars to the train.

CASEY JR
Wait a minute! I recognize these cars. Cerberus was pulling them out of here an hour ago.

DAN PETERSON
Cerberus?! Oh, I might have known that nightmare on wheels was behind this. Oooh, just wait until I get my hands on that rolling junkheap!

TILLIE
You won’t have to wait long, sir. Here he comes now.

Everyone looks up to see Cerberus reversing towards them slowly and coming to a stop a few yards before the first car of the runaway train.

DAN PETERSON
Good. Now I can chew out that triple stacked rust bucket sooner.

He stomps alongside Cerberus’ train before turning to face Cerberus.

DAN PETERSON
Cerberus! Half of your train has caused an accident that blocked track 2 and made a huge mess! Explain yourself at once!

Cerberus is looking quite pale as he looks down at Dan Peterson.

CERBERUS
(nervously gulps before speaking nervously)
Ummm, well, you see. The couplings broke and I lost my train.

A workman is examining the front car’s coupling bolt as Dan Peterson speaks to Cerberus severely.

DAN PETERSON
Huh! You’re always looking for some way to cause trouble for someone other than you.
I’ll bet you yanked on that coupling so it would break!

WORKMAN #1
Uhh, sir? He’s actually telling the truth.

Dan Peterson turns towards the workman.

DAN PETERSON
How do you mean?

WORKMAN #1
Well, come take a look.

Dan Peterson walks over and the workman points at where the coupling bolt is missing.

WORKMAN #1
See where the coupling bolt should be. I know enough about rolling stock maintenance to know the difference between sabotaged and old couplings. This one was been in need of a replacement coupling for some time.

DAN PETERSON
Well, by George! You’re right!

Dan turns towards Cerberus.

DAN PETERSON
Sorry for ripping into you, Cerberus.

CERBERUS
Th-thank you, sir.

DAN PETERSON
As soon as Mary gets this wagon out of the way, please take the undamaged cars here to the yards.

CERBERUS
Yes, sir.

Dan Peterson then turns back towards where more workmen are inspecting Montana’s tender and walks towards them.

DAN PETERSON
I swear, when I find out who’s responsible for this accident, I will personally throw him out onto the street.

He soon reaches the workmen and Montana’s tender and stops.

DAN PETERSON
What’s the damage? Is it serious?

One of them turns to Dan Peterson and gives him the news.

WORKMAN #2
Well, other than a few dents and ripped hose pipe, his tender’s gonna make it. If we hurry, we can get it mended in time for your trip to Boston. But, I’m afraid he’ll be out of commission for the tourist run.

DAN PETERSON
Oh bother! Who am I gonna get to to take Montana’s place? All the other engines are out on the tracks.

He looks around and then sees Casey Jr, Tillie and Tracy still waiting on track 3.

DAN PETERSON
Hmmm. Well, everyone except……

We are now on platform 2 where Casey Jr, Tillie, Tracy, Emma, Luke and Jim are having a conversation about who Dan Peterson will get to take the tourist special.

CASEY JR
Who do you think will be able to take the tourist train?

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
Well, Casey. I don’t rightly know. All the other engines that are qualified to taking a train this long are all out on the tracks.

EMMA
He’s right. Even if Dan were to reschedule one of them to take the train, they wouldn’t make it here in time. Look at the time. The two excursion trains will be arriving any minute.

Everyone looks up at the nearest station clock. It is just about 9 A.M.

TILLIE
Oh rattling rods! Who’s Mr. Peterson gonna get to take the train on short notice?

DAN PETERSON
I’m glad you asked that, Tillie.

Everyone there looks over to see Dan Peterson walking along platform and stops where they can see him.

DAN PETERSON
Because I’ve found the perfect engines for the job.

TRACY
R-really, sir?

EMMA
Who might they be?

Dan Peterson is smiling looking at all the four engines.

DAN PETERSON
(smiling)
They’re all here in this station right now.

The engines, Jim and Luke are looking around the station to see if there are any other engines. In a few moments, Casey then realises which engines Mr. Peterson is talking about.

CASEY JR
But sir. There aren’t any other engines other than-. Wait. You don’t mean us, do you?

Dan Peterson nods slowly. Then Casey gets a little alarmed by this.

CASEY JR
Oh no! No, no, no, and no again! There’s no way we’d be able to even come close to Montana’s speed!

TILLIE
Come on, Casey. We’ll never know unless we try. Count me in, sir.

TRACY
I’ll give it a shot.

LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER
We’ll lend a hand too. It’d be nice to be travelin’ beyond the station and yard for a change.

JIM BUTTON
Yeah, what Luke just said.

EMMA
Yeah. As Montana once told me, little engines can do big things. And I’m sure we’d be able to get this train moving if we really tried.

Then all eyes look at Casey Jr.

CASEY JR
Now why are you all looking at me like that?

DAN PETERSON
Because Tillie, Tracy and Emma aren’t strong enough to get the train moving. But if you helped, there’s a pretty good chance.

Casey Jr is a little unsure about this decision.

CASEY JR
(unsure)
Well……

DAN PETERSON
Please Casey? If we aren’t able to get this train moving, the tour run will have to be canceled. And they’ll all be disappointed. Especially the children.

Casey Jr then thinks for a few moments.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
Casey Jr had to make a decision. He knew Mr. Peterson had a point. Tillie, Tracy and Emma were some of the smallest engines back then. They weren’t strong enough to move the heavy train by themselves, and he certainly didn’t want anyone to be disappointed that the tour would have to be canceled, even the children. But he wasn’t so sure that the four of them would be able to even get the heavy train rolling at all.

A train horn in the distance behind them is heard.

TILLIE
Oh no! The excursion trains are coming! Please Casey! At least give it a go!

Casey Jr then makes his decision.

CASEY JR
Well……..oh, alright. You’ve twisted my piston. I’ll give it a try.

DAN PETERSON
Oh, thank you Casey! Now, get into place while I make the last minute changes to the schedule.

Dan Peterson hurries away to make the schedule changes.

CUTS TO :
We now see the four engines in position : Tracy and Tillie at the front and Casey Jr and Emma at the back. The passengers are disembarking from two passenger trains being pulled by two mainland engines : ELLEN and JOEL. They are talking to them while the passengers are boarding the tourist train.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
Soon, the four engines got into place. Tillie and Tracy took their places at the front of the train while Casey Jr and Emma took their positions at the back, to serve as bankers. And before they knew it, the excursion trains arrived from the mainland with coaches crammed with passengers really looking forward to the tour they were about to go on.

TILLIE
So that’s why we’re taking this train, and not Montana.

JOEL
Wow! You little engines have more spunk than anyone I ever met, wouldn’t you say so Ellen?

ELLEN
Indeed, Joel. It certainly takes engines with big hearts to help out a friend like your Montana, and your controller as well.

Casey Jr is still feeling a little doubtful about this. He sees Dan Peterson about to pass on his way to his station office.

CASEY JR
Sir, I’m still not sure about this.

Dan Peterson then stops and looks at Casey Jr.

DAN PETERSON
You can do it, Casey. I’m counting on you all to at least try.

The coach dores then begin to shut. This means that there’s no turning back now. Then Dan Peterson resumes heading towards his office.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
But before Casey Jr could say anything, the coach doors all along the train began to shut, one by one.

CASEY JR
Well….no turning back now.

The last door shuts, followed by the guard blowing his whistle from the brake coach.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
Then, the last door banged shut. The guard blew his whistle.

The four engines then begin to dig in, their wheels slipping for a few moments before the heavy train finally begins to move.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
And with much puffing and wheel slip, the heavy train then rolled out of the station, beginning the tour.

A few moments later, the Little Engines instrumental song begins playing as the train rolls along the line.

CUTS TO :
35 - EXT - VARIOUS LOCATIONS - MORNING/DAYTIME/AFTERNOON/EVENING
The four engines with their train are seen passing pass through Celgreb Bay Junction(Jebediah passes them and blows his whistle to them), Great Wolf Forest(Big Freighter Pete passes them and blows his whistle to them), the western Cliffstone Mountain incline(they struggle a little bit to get up it)(Jodi passes them and blows his whistle to them), Cliffstone Mountain Junction(Big Old Rusty passes them and blows his whistle to them), Rotoslopia Junction(Minerva passes them and blows her horn to them), Kahlville Junction(Georgia passes them and blows her whistle to them), and then arrive at Gridinia Bay Station at the end of the line(where Sasha’s waiting to depart with her train). Then they’re seen departing from the station(Tracy and Casey at the front this time, and Tillie and Emma at the back),climbing up Cliffstone Mountain’s eastern incline(struggles a little up this one too)(Rodney passes them and blows his whistle to them), pass through Great Wolf Forest(Rodrick passes them and blows his horn to them), and arrive into Celgreb City Central where Joel(waiting at platform 3) and Ellen(waiting at platform 4) are waiting for their passengers to take them back to the mainland as the instrumental ends.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
I have to admit, even though they were not as strong or as fast as Montana, I’m surprised by how they were able to get the train all the way to Gridinia Bay and back with a few moments to spare.

The four engines manage to stop the heavy train stop on platform 2. Their cheeks are red and they are exhausted.

CASEY JR/TILLIE/TRACY/EMMA
(panting, trying to catch their breath)

CASEY JR
(out of breath)
Ar-are we-on time?

JOEL
Roastin’ radiators! You’re right on time!

Casey and Tracy look up at the clock. It is 6 p.m., the time they were to arrive back.

EMMA
Well, I can see why your controller chose you for for the job. You lot more grit and determination than we originally thought.

The four engines blush at the compliment.

TILLIE
Thank you, uhhhhh. Sorry. We didn’t catch your names.

The two mainland diesels chuckle at this.

JOEL
(chuckles)
No need to apologize. There wasn’t much time for introductions. I’m Joel.

ELLEN
And I’m Ellen. We’ll be bringing more passengers to Crotoonia once your controller signs off the paperwork with our controller up in Boston.

JOEL
Indeed. You’ll be seeing a lot more of us soon enough.

The passengers transfer trains and Joel and Ellen toot their horns as they depart once their passengers were all on board.

JOEL/ELLEN
See ya around!

CASEY JR/TILLIE/TRACY/EMMA
See ya!

The quartet of engines watch Joel and Ellen depart before the scene changes.

CUTS TO :
36 - EXT - CELGREB CITY YARDS’ ROUNDHOUSE - NIGHTFALL
We now see Casey Jr, Tillie, Tracy and Emma are seen approaching the roundhouse. They look exhausted and look like they’re about to fall asleep.

CASEY JR
(yawns)
Rattling rods, I feel like I’m about to fall apart.

TILLIE
(yawns)
I...I know what you mean, Casey. I feel like I could sleep for a week.

The four engines enter the roundhouse. Suddenly, a light comes on and the quartet is greeted with a chorus of cheers, whistles, and horns.

MINERVA/GEORGIA/DOC/MARY/JEBEDIAH/BIG FREIGHTER PETE/HUMPHREY/RODRICK/JODI/SHELBERT/RODNEY/ADELINE/EMMELINE/TOOTS/TOOTLE/
EMMA/JOHNNY/BIG OLD RUSTY/MONTANA/BIG TIM/JASON/SASHA
(cheering and congratulating the four engines (improvise))

CASEY JR
(surprised)
Huh? What the?!

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
The moment they entered the roundhouse, they were given a really rousing welcome from the rest of us. Even Farnsworth was impressed, but he wouldn’t admit it.

TILLIE
Wh-what’s all this?

JEBEDIAH
A congratulations on a successful tourist run.

GEORGIA
What you for did today was, terrific!

MINERVA
I personally agree with ya there!

HUMPHREY
Mighty impressive!

DAN PETERSON
I concur with all of you.

Everyone looks over to see Dan Peterson walk in.

DAN PETERSON
That tourist run was a huge success! The passengers were able to take lots of pictures and videos of all the sights along the line. In fact, they’re willing to pay for a branch line tourist run along the branch line. And they want you four to take that train.

EMMA
R-really, sir?

DAN PETERSON
Really, Emma. But, we’ll wait until I return with Montana from Boston before we do the tourist branch line special. Only difference between this special and the one you took today is there will be two seperate trains being pulled by double headers.

CASEY JR
Whew! That would be much easier.

DAN PETERSON
I’m sure it will be, Casey. Also, you four really proved that little engines can do big things. So, you lot deserve a reward.

TRACY
A reward, sir?

DAN PETERSON
Yes, Tracy. A reward. Not only will you four receive a new coat of paint each, You’ll also get to take more trains along the main line and branch line.

CASEY JR
Wow! That’s some reward.

GEORGIA
Congratulations, guys!

BIG FREIGHTER PETE
Great job!

Whistle and horn cheers follow after Big Freighter Pete’s few words.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
That night we celebrated the four little engines’ promotion ‘til long after the stars came out.

Scene slowly changes.

CUTS TO :
37 - EXT - VARIOUS LOCATIONS - DAYTIME
We see a few scenes as they unfold : Casey Jr, Tillie, Tracy and Emma are being given new coats of paint in the workshop and are seen a few moments later pulling passenger and goods trains through Cliffstone Mountain Junction. Montana is seen slowly leaving the the same workshop with his tender looking as good as new. We then see Dan Peterson pointing in the direction of the road where an unnamed workman is heading, indicating termination. Moments later, Montana is seen pulling a special coach with Dan Peterson on board onto Boston. A few moments later, Montana is seen returning with the same coach with Dan Peterson riding in Montana’s cab this time. Only difference is behind Montana’s coach are MELISSA and T.JERRY puffing behind them. And the expression on Georgia, Minerva, Rodrick, and Shelbert’s faces are surprised looks. And we see the two engines smiling at the others, ending the story.

BIG OLD RUSTY AS THE NARRATOR
Next day, the four little engines were sent in for their new coats of paints. I’m pleased to say they were really happy to get them. And the next day, they started to take trains along the mainline and branch line. The following day, Montana’s tender was mended. The dents were pulled out, the damaged hose pipe was replaced, and the paintwork was touched up. And Montana returned to regular service. Mr.Peterson eventually found the workman responsible for the accident that put Montana in the workshop in the first place and kicked him to the curb. And soon Montana took Mr. Peterson across the new bridge to the mainland, all the way to Boston to sign the necessary papers to open the extension line. But when they returned to Crotoonia, We were very surprised at who they brought back with them. But that’s another story.

FIN.
