In this journal, I just want to direct everyone's attention to the best thing ever, as of now.
If you haven't already heard or played it, it's called "The Stanley Parable" which has been available on Steam for a little more than a month. store.steampowered.com/app/221…
Before you click away and ignore this journal, let me just say this: The game has a free demo which is small in file size, very immersive, and doesn't actually spoil the main game in any way. The demo doesn't even fit into the game's story. It just gives you a taste of the themes. So you should play the demo. It's free, and will only take 30 minutes of your time.
I stand with the reviewers on this one. It's incredible and a must-play. But the exact reason why is a spoiler. You'll want to trust me on this one. Why else would I write a journal entry about it? I played The Walking Dead, Bioshock Infinite, and The Last of Us this year, and I didn't feel the need to share those. But this one, I do. Mostly because I think it'll largely fall on deaf ears.
In the event that you DO decide to purchase The Stanley Parable (For a very economical $15, I might add) Here is how I recommend you set yourself up to play it.
*Make sure the game is installed completely.
*Set your computer up to a TV if possible.
*Invite some of your best friends and/or family to join you. These people should be willing to stay around for a couple of hours and watch the game as if it were a movie, occasionally swapping in and out (As the game is single-player)
*Determine whether you prefer to use a keyboard/mouse or a gamepad. The controls are literally just moving and using one button to interact. A gamepad may be more ideal in the presence of non-gamers.
*Turn the lights off and volume up. Be sure there's plenty of bass.
*Experience the Stanley Parable.
*If you're feeling particularly adventurous, perform these steps when you first play the demo, as well.
