Night in a Tengu Shrine Garden

An oil painting on board. After reading Tactics I became interested in the way tengu are portrayed in contemporary work (like manga) versus the traditional appearance (as seen in the statue)- which also tied in to my interest in the portrayal of angels. The statue is not a copy of an existing one but it was inspired by ones I have seen at tengu shrines. I did the figure by sketching myself crouching in a mirror.
