This inability to come up with ideas is seriously starting to bug me. I'm not art blocked (putting tons of stuff on IG)... Just idea blocked. No stories, no development...

It has been quite a while since I've read a really compelling story. I so rarely read anymore...

devduck01 has a great point about taking a break. I think that your issue is that while you draw everyday, your art has no real inspiration behind it. That's what you are feeling empty despite put out some great art; you do not feel emotionally connected to it. The funny thing for me is that I have the opposite problem; I'll get inspired by something I see, draw about 5-6 pics on it, come up with a backstory for the world, then about a week later, get inspired by something else and immediatly lose interest on what I was working on. It's maddening.

As for motive, try drawing something out of your comfort zone. It may be just the thing to re-kindle your flame of inspiration!

One thing is for certain, it's time to put an end to my random practice babe project. I'm doing a few different approaches even as I type this. What will come of it, I don't know yet, but I'm leaning towards a back to basics approach.

Are you stick in the middle of a story? Or just can't develop new ideas right now?

The latter. I don't have a problem making artwork, just with making anything with any level of depth. My old stories have lost all appeal to me and I have no drive to come up with anything new.

I'm thinking the well is finally dry and it's time for me to do something completely different as an artist. Spent too much time trying to be something...but not trying hard enough and the procrastination caught up with me.

I dunno man. Your artwork is really amazing...

As a writer I often hit those plateaus...where what I am doing doesn't seem any good, can't come up with new ideas or feel like I am just walking in a circle retracing my steps.

Usually I go watch movies, read comics and books, both inside and outside what I like...flip through art books and go walk every day...

The subconscious has a way of working these things out...sometimes it just needs rest, and food which is what the above things are...sometimes it needs a good brainstorming session with a friend, and yeah sometimes you are right and it can be time to move on.

But I wouldn't call it time just yet...

I appreciate the compliment. I don't mean to make it sound like I am down on my actual art. I think it's technically sound, the anatomy and colors are solid (not perfect but solid) and I actually feel the urge to draw something all the time. I just feel like there's something lacking with what I'm putting out, something to give it panache, charm, excitement...

But you're the second person to suggest a break, a separation from the creative attempts for a while. I have a big coloring job going on now and that'll force me to keep working on artwork but maybe silencing my mind and accepting that I'm not a storyteller right now (or anymore) is a good way to go.

I have been considering learning ZBrush lately...

I think if you are a storyteller you always will be...

I GM'd table top games for 26 years...from 13 to 39...which is where I cut my story telling teeth. Sometimes I can go weeks without writing these days, but I always come back to it. And other times I can get 9k words a month done.

I would recommend a break, see how it goes...but keep a note pad and pen handy...because the ideas will come, trust me...
