What up?

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 17, 2009, 7:16 AM

School, work and life in general are keeping me really busy these days but I try to keep up with my fellow deviants as much as I can.

I had over 350 deviations on my watch so I cleared the list...I just can't keep up with it all. I do look at the work you guys are uploading and I try to comment and fave when I can, but if I tried to comment on everything, I'd have no time for anything else.

As you may have noticed, I uploaded inked versions of the first two pages of my latest comic effort. So what's going on is that I figured I'd work on the book sporadically between all my other responsibilities (being able to draw at work helps). But the comic is going to go through a state of upheaval. See, I'm closer to deciding what Jet Dancer will be all about, and I came up with a different approach to the story. Fortunately, that different approach doesn't affect how the comic I'm working on starts, so I don't need to redo the pages I've done so far, but I do need to edit future pages that I planned. So, the rest of the comic is going to be slower-going.

I'm also thinking of coloring the comic the way I colored Jet Vector? by Dualmask, Poison and Rin by Dualmask and 100000 by Dualmask. Because I was telling myself that, while my artwork is certainly not beyond reproach, I can't keep sitting around and waiting for critiques before I go forward either. Otherwise I'll never get anything done. I need to produce complete pages the first time, with colors and lettering, and resolve any mistakes later. So I'm not going to upload another incomplete page, and I'll edit the pages I have up now to reflect the new approach. No digital inks and straight from rough to colors means the comic will be done faster and have a unique look (as far as my art is concerned anyway).

In other news, is it weird that I have Uncharted 2 for PS3 (from Gamefly) and I'm not all that eager to play it? I mean, everyone's screaming Game of the Year, the game that defines the PS3 and all that, but to me it feels like a standard cross between third person shooter and Tomb Raider with a guy in the lead. Yeah, great graphics, great voice acting, etc...but it doesn't feel all that special of a game to me. I didn't really get into the first one either but I thought maybe the sequel would interest me more. It's like my interest in the game is in direct contrast to the amount of hype surrounding it, even though it's a perfectly competent game...

You guys have anything you want to talk about? My ear...well, my eyes that look at this monitor, are always open. :)

Y'know I am playing Uncharted 2 over my friend's house and it is pretty good to me considering I have not played a shooter-type game in ages. I do not see the big hype about this game but maybe I am missing some--.....naw, I don't thing so. It's a good game to play but everybody is different in what kind of games they like to play. Well, as for your comic...can't wait to you upload. I am not around a computer a lot unless I am at school or over someone's house who has a computer. Well, continue to be blessed and use the talent God gave you to create wonderful and magnificent works of art. Continue to strive, my friend, and good things shall follow. Type to ya later!!

Honestly, I didn't see what the big hype was with the first Uncharted for the longest.

What annoys me even more-so are the fanboys (and I mean for all sides of the console forces) who tout these games as putting others out of their misery. Nonsense. I can't believe how people grill my opinion about this game on various forums when it's just my opinion. I rather play Tomb Raider. Nothing really new here. The protagonist isn't even "attractive" to reel in the ladies like how Lara did to us.

So, a big NO for Uncharted 2 for me.

That's the big problem. As well made as Uncharted 2 is, I just don't care about these characters, and I need that in order to enjoy a game. There has to be something interesting about them. Lara Croft was a then-unusual hot chick in an Indiana Jones-type role. You've got Dante, a silver-haired half demon who can take damage like no human. You've got Kratos, the guy who killed Ares wielding those sick Blades of Chaos. You've got the girl from Heavenly Sword (her name escapes me) who has the sword that can transform in the middle of battle (and is killing her). And in Uncharted, you've got...some guy named Nathan Drake.

I'm just glad I rented the game rather than rush out to buy it (like a bunch of my friends did). I'd be suffering from buyer's remorse right about now.

Naughty Dog (original developers of Crash Bandicoot, developers of Jak & Daxter and Uncharted series) are noteworthy for not producing groundbreakingly original gameplay, but solid dependable exemplars of established genres using some of the best technology at their disposal (Lisp in games = fuck yes!). You really do want to give Uncharted a shot. Everything from gameplay mechanics to graphics and sound and little realistic details in the presentation will blow you away with how solidly built and well thought out it is. If you don't have fun, I will be surprised.

Well, I never was a big fan of Crash Bandicoot, haven't played much Jak and Daxter, and I didn't really get into the first Uncharted either. I mean, I can see the game is a technological marvel, but the setting and characters feel so boring to me. But I haven't played it long enough to really pass judgment...I'm just having trouble getting motivated to do so.

I found the characters more fascinating than their counterparts in the Tomb Raider series at least. In fact Uncharted 2 contains something of a Lara Croft parody of sorts, a sexpot bad-girl love interest with an Englishoid accent (Australian, actually) whom Drake ends up ditching. :)

Yeah I got something to talk about.... Kryptonian vs Viltrumite.... Which ridiculously powered alien creature wins?

I gotta give it to the Kryptonians. They just have more options. Both would probably be parallel in strength and speed, but Superman has a lot more than that.

I think that the comic pages should be colored in your style, Dual. It will look awesome!

As for Uncharted 2, I think that it's because it depends on personal preferance. I had a choice of renting either that, or Ninja gaiden Sigma 2. I chose Sigma 2 because my want for playing that game was greater than that of Uncharted 2. If Uncharted 2 were to start a sassy black woman ala Nia Black, you'll problely be all over it by now! :)

Yeah, I wish I had gotten Sigma 2 instead. I'm a lot more interested in hot ninja girls and fighting demons with swords and wild special attacks, than I am in doing some rudimentary ledge climbing and platform jumping and shooting with some generic 5 o'clock shadow sporting action hero.

I think I'm going to send Uncharted back to Gamefly pretty quickly. I'll give it another day to see if it wows me any, and then we'll see.

We learn by doing, as they say. I think coloring your comic in this new style is a great idea.
