What's new + Linkage

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 22, 2007, 11:39 AM
I need to clear that last journal entry...some of my quiz answers were misinterpreted by my wife and I got in a bit of trouble... ^^;

Anyway, I'm still knee deep in commission work; it's going to take me a long time not because of the difficulty, but the quantity, combined with the fact that I can only digital color at home, as opposed to drawing and inking (by hand) which I can do pretty much anywhere. Since I work full time, I'm only really home during the night hours and between doing my part in taking care of the house and being there for the kids, it leaves precious little time for me to work on the digital side of things (and on occasion, sleep).

kllrjatt ordered a large number of drawings back when I was in dire straits a while ago, and he really helped me out, so that's what the hold up is on the other works I owe; plus he got to me first.

I'm working hard though, even though my rate of uploading art makes it seem like I'm hardly working. But I'm going to work double time this week because it's not fair that people who have already paid me for work should have to wait forever and a day for my end of the bargains.

Wanted to go to the Philly Wizard World Con, but circumstances, plus responsibilities, made it unjustifiable. Hope those who did go had a good time.

Oh yeah. As of today every chapter of my Nia Black story is uploaded in my :iconniablack: gallery from start to finish. Give it a read sometime and tell me how much it sucks. ;P

So what's new with you?

The first 10 people who post in this journal (starting on 6.20.07) will be featured. I will go though your gallery and choose three of your deviations I like most and post them in my journal for everyone to see! It's pretty much to show you off. Who doesn't want that?

The catch?

You gotta put this in your journal as well if you posted. And I will leave this part up for a long time.
And remember, if you don't post this in your journal, I'm not going to put your art up.

Yeah, it was the "Last thing that made you upset: my wife" thing that pissed her off, she didn't realize I was talking about something incredibly minor. But we're over it. :)

Still have probs to copy and paste pictures layers and inking but for the rest everything is fine:)
What kind of tools are you using to make the drawing look darker in Photoshop after you inked it?
I already tried with the contrasts tones on Paint Shop Pro but I can't find it on my Adobe Photoshop Element 4.
I had a Photoshop 7 as a gift and I still don't understand how it works.:confused:Can't find the layers styles.
Oic!

I also use Photoshop 7.

When I scan in an inked drawing, the first thing I do is go to curves (Ctrl+M). Don't fiddle with the graph; somewhere in the lower right of the box are three inkdroppers, the one represents black, another one white (I honestly don't know what the middle one is for, never used it, but I assume it's midtones). Click the black inkdropper in the curves box and then click an area of your drawing that you want solid black, and Photoshop will make every part of your image that matches the tone of the area you clicked solid black. Same for the white part. For instance, if there are light gray remnants of my pencil marks in a scanned drawing, I'll use the white dropper in the curves window to make them disappear.

Sometimes though, you have to get down and dirty with the brush and eraser, manually cleaining up things, erasing nicks on the drawing, turning dark grays into black, smoothing out jagged edges, and so on. It's time consuming (and I didn't do nearly as much as I could have on that drawing I just uploaded) but in the end it's always worth it. Nothing good comes easy.

If you have any other questions, always feel free to ask. If I don't know something about Photoshop, I know how to find out. :)

Sounds like you need some renewed inspiration. You should get your hands on Cutting Edge Anatomy by Chris Hart. While most of Hart's books suck, that particular one stands out. It's a great resource with input from a lot of varied, masters of anatomy.

Well, perhaps now's a good time to start. After all, not all self-improvement comes from within.
