Time to announce the winners!

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 24, 2008, 7:13 AM

The coloring contest is over, and now is the time that winners will be announced.

In third place, with 16 votes, is :iconsilverx50:! Nia Black city blast by silverx50
His overwhelming attention to detail, use of textures and personal touch made it a big hit with voters. I loved it too, though I thought it was a bit overrendered compared to others.

In second place, with 21 votes, is :iconkhantinka:! Dualmask contest entry by Khantinka
Honestly, I thought this one would win for sure. I must admit, of all the entries, this is the one I personally preferred. Though yellow would not be my first choice of colors to dress Nia in, the way Khantinka handled the lighting, how effective the surfaces look under the lighting conditions and the way she gave just enough attention to the background to make Nia pop; it all made this image stand out to me. Alas, more voters thought differently.

And the winning entry, with 23 votes, was done by none other than :iconhulkdaddyg:! Nia Black contest color by hulkdaddyg
It was extremely tight in the final moments of the polling, but at the last minute, hulkdaddyg's entry pulled ahead. What I like about his entry is how much sheer color he added to everything. I thought the skin tone he used for Nia was a bit on the dark side, and while it looks good, the added muscle detail was a bit of a turn-off according to my wife. He did some nice ad-libbing into the image (an extra building and the blimp) that fits so well I almost didn't notice it.

So there you have it. Those are our three winners. I'll be noting each of you in regards to prize distribution shortly.

One more thing. For the other six entrants, to show my appreciation for your time and energy spent on entering the contest, I will be providing you with a sketched drawing of the character of your choice. Comment here or note me with your request.

Thanks to everyone who entered, and everyone who took the time to vote. I'll do this again sometime if I ever prepare a line art quite as good as Nia 2008 again!

FYI, if interested, you can see all the contest entries here.

Congrats to the winners, I have no favourites but I personally like Khartinka's Nia, and hulkdaddyg's buildings. Sorry I couldn't make it, I was stuck in a greeting card contest. Cheers to you, Dualmask, for hosting a great contest :D

Congrats to Hulk and silverx!
I really wish i could have voted more than once, i thought [link] and [link] deserved alot more votes. When i first saw jeafs i thought for sure he'd be up there ranking. The GTA style was well pulled off and looked awesome.
I also thought Hulk personalised his entry, which noone else really did. He changed it up and gave Nia his own style which i liked :D
Thanks Dual mask for running this awesome lineart contest :)

Er, I meant "too complex for others to want to color". Ugh.

Indeed. I was thoroughly impressed by everyone's efforts. I thought at first that the image was too complex for others to want to draw...heck, I never grew the nerve to color it myself!

Ohh, right. dA puts newer messages at the top. I hate that.

Me too...but what I really hate is the lack of comment editing! They could at least make it so you only have a limited time to edit your comment if they're that obsessed with archiving comments (I've seen it work that way on some other message boards).

But...I guess that's why they give us that preview button.

I only use the preview button to make sure I type emotes correctly. :)

A lot of people outside of dA that I showed this to felt the same way, but hey, the numbers don't lie. The narrow majority of voters liked Hulkdaddyg's work best, and he didn't do a bad job at all in my opinion.
