WCL Rebirth - Striker Team by Dualmask WCL Rebirth - Striker Team by Dualmask
Re-introducing the Striker Team!

A promotional image for my WCL concept's return to my creative forefront. Pretty much spent all day on this. It started out just a rough sketch, then I started playing around with different brushes and one thing led to another.

Maybe over-rendered, but I was having fun.

WCL stands for WEAPON Combat League, a game/story/comic concept I've been developing since forever. It's a complex narrative following the creation of a team-based futuristic arena battle competition, hence the like colors. If it were a game with teams of three a la King of Fighters, then the Striker Team would be where player one's cursor would sit on by default.

From left: Marcus Albright, codename Bomber; Quinn Royce, codename Saber; Faith Roberts, codename Lumina. Marcus is a former underground battler whose skill with setting explosive traps got the WCL recruiters' attention! Quinn, once a gang leader, was arrested and forced to enter the competition to spice things up and avoid a jail sentence! Faith is a genius tech who entered the competition when a robbery--by none other than Quinn's former gang--put her family's finances in jeopardy!

Show some love...or tell me why it sucks...or anything in between those two extremes. I'm all ears, as it were. I'm always on the lookout for any feedback about my work, but this concept in particular, suggestions, questions, anything.

I like Lumina's pose. A little exaggerated perhaps, but she is basically having to fire over her shoulder toward her 'blind spot' - gives the sense that she is beset on all sides in an intense battle.

Thanks. That's exactly what I was thinking when I drew it.

This looks pretty cool, I like the costume choices and the lighting. But I do have a few critiques:
The composition is bothersome. You're cutting off the dudes at the ankles, which makes it look like you just didn't want to draw their feet. Understandable feet can be a big pain. I'd say either bump them up so you see head to toe, or crop at the knees for a better composition.
The anatomy looks pretty good, especially since they're all muscle dudes. But the orange guy's right leg (our left) looks significantly thicker than his other leg. The leg is indeed thicker in profile than front, but that looks lop-sided.
I am curious as to why the lady in the image isn't facing where she is shooting. As opposed to the 'bring it on' pose of red guy, and the 'I'm gonna blow stuff up' orange guy pose, why did you chose to pose her unable to turn and face her target? Especially since it looks like she might be having to dislocate her shoulder to shoot lasers.

Fair crits one and all. Thanks a lot. I liked the composition when I roughed it out because their poses draw the eyes in and out toward the center. I have no problem drawing feet; plenty of them in my other works though I do admit needing to continue practicing with them. It was just a choice I made this time. The raised leg on the guy on the left is meant to be foreshortened, thus its thicker appearance. I found the girl's pose to be exaggerated but enjoyable in a comic book way, though I'm sure it wouldn't appeal to everyone.

To be honest, I had originally intended to make this part of a much larger drawing that would include many more characters, which I would put together piece by piece, eliminating or at least reducing any composition problems, but it should also be able to stand alone. Since there's nothing I can change now without redrawing the whole thing, I'll have to take those thoughts under advisement for future pieces. Thanks again.

Ah, I see. I just always found images cut off at the feet to be problematic. It kinda reminds me of somebody sinking in mud. As for her pose, it does look like a comic pose female pose seen pretty often. I tried the pose myself (aside from the floating), and I found it strained my shoulder and neck trying to see what I was aiming at.

It does work by itself just fine, but be careful applying more characters to the entire group shot. Inserting separately drawn characters can result in varying pixel qualities/lines.
That's understandable, not all critiques can be applied immediately, but at least I could be of help. You're welcome and good luck.
