I thought I would share the completed first chapter of WCL in comic form. I'm not really 100% happy with it, but I acknowledge that it's the best I could do. I thought I could make every chapter into 16-page comics, but my motivation just can't reach the level of my ambition. I've been trying to make the second chapter for months but I just couldn't do it.

So I'm sharing what I could do. It is the first and only complete comic based on my WCL story and I'm proud of that at least.

I was pretty proud of this...somewhere along the line, just lost the fun I suppose. How do you do it man?

The key is to make sure the book you are working on is fun, make sure it has jokes and humor and you really want to be in that world, that's what I do anyway

I remember when you started this, I think it came out great!
More importantly I bet you learned a lot about the process doing it ;)

Yes indeed Rod. The biggest thing I learned was that one must know exactly what his story is for, from the beginning. I made the mistake of trying to turn a super complex prose novel into a comic but it just doesn't fit.

I'm proud of what I've done, but WCL needs to be something else. The idea isn't dead, but me and comics just don't mix.

It's cool that you've been able to put this all together into one post!  I didn't know you could have scrolling art like this, though, that's neat!

Yeah, I recently realized dA lets you post PDF files which is really cool, better than making one huge image or posting every page individually IMO. Very neat.

(I have to post a reply, because DA won't let me post a comment directly to your art piece).

I think you should be proud of this comic. I was reading some comics by the big companies recently, and I think this was every bit as good in terms of pacing and story-telling (and frankly- no lies- better than some of the stories). The art choices you made work well for the scenes- like the defense against the initial gov't attack, or the ending sequence. I liked how focused you were on telling the story and telling it well.

If you ever felt like drawing more comics for the series, this would serve well as a first chapter, without having to start over again from scratch.

(Can't comment directly? Weird. Another dA glitch I guess.)

There are some parts of this that I'm really happy with. I like how I colored it, particularly the last few pages. I'm proud of my writing. My backgrounds and environments need work, but overall I am proud.

I noticed that I managed to produce comic versions of the first chapters of all three of my major concepts (WCL, Jet Dancer and Nia Black) but apparently there is something about the second chapter of my works that causes my drive to crumble. I don't know what it is. Maybe if I can figure out what it is that hinders me, I can overcome it and make more comics.
