WCL: 8-Bit Mega Man style by Dualmask WCL: 8-Bit Mega Man style by Dualmask
Playing around with turning WEAPON Combat League characters into 8-bit Mega Man style. Since the MM series aesthetic is part of what inspired me to create WCL, this makes some kind of sense.

Top row: Saber, Lumina, Ruin, Rapier
Second row: Seismic, Deluge, Diesel ...

I think I'm going to add onto these every now and then until the whole cast is done. I'll make it a "new" update when I add a significant number, say every four characters.

It's a bit too small for me to really comment.

They're actual size in relation to the actual Mega Man game sprites (NES games had really crap resolution back then). Hit download and then Ctrl+ the plus sign on the keyboard to zoom in. Or, open it up in Photoshop and increase the image size using the Nearest Neighbor setting...either way will work.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. They are pretty cool.

Thanks. :) Easy to do too. You should try making Gilead in this style. Set your PS pencil tool to 1 px and have at it...you'll be done in like 15 minutes or less. :D

Can't help but like the Mega Man style sprites. Great work on transforming your WCL characters into those sprites, too. I think it's cool that you're willing to do something like this with your characters, as opposed to taking them too seriously to be treated in such a way.

The old-school gamer in me is happy today because of this. =P

:D Thanks! I've always loved Mega Man, that little engine of destruction that he is.

Can't go wrong with the classics. :D The 8-bit series was very playable (.....usually)

The 8-bit games were great, starting with MM2. The first one was a frustrating mess. Love the rest of them though. I could go on yammering about Mega Man forever...

Mega Man one was tricky. XD

Btw, if you want to give people something to consider, an interesting analysis of how Japanese gaming views their action-orientated heroes vs. Americans (Mega Man makes a cameo at around the 2 minute mark)

I finally got around to watching that video, and it was pretty thought provoking. Guns or any kind of projectile attack viewed more as an optimization/extension of the self in the East as opposed to just being a tool in the West...and I definitely prefer Eastern themes.

I had a friend who accused me of having Japanese blood (not that I took it as an insult but he meant it as one) because of the fact that I prefer Japanese games and despise games like silly Halo on that despicable Xbox. =p

It's definitely more broad-thinking (though those same analysts also talked about how Japanese and Western games are starting to crisscross in terms of cultural undertones, possibly for overseas marketing purposes) Actually, I also recommend their East vs. West RPG video, the conclusion they've reached may be unsettling for fans of Japanese games like you and I. :|

Without viewing the video (can't go to YouTube at work), I find myself curious if it mentions what I've read elsewhere--that the progression of RPGs in the East tends to focus on the (perhaps arrogant and presumptuous) storytelling and fantasy ideas of the developer, forcing the player to follow along with a story looking at it from the "outside", while the Western RPGs (such as Skyrim) tend to focus more on making the player the center of the universe.

Pretty much. Though like with shooters, they list off games that do defy their culture of origin.
