Vanessa Combo - shaded by Dualmask Vanessa Combo - shaded by Dualmask

This is a basic version of what I'm going for as far as how the final combo will look, though I need more animation frames to make the special effects look better.

Nice work- lots of action, lots of movement- and the movement is in keeping with her posing. I know you'll be adding more frames, but so far it looks great.

Glad you like! I'm actually starting to think the animation was looking better before I added the energy effects...I might just save them for more "special" moves.

Its looks really great. If you can get the enemy to move a half step with each hit, it will look perfect :)

How many frames is it now?

Glad you like it! That's something I need to keep in mind, about the enemy, thanks. Didn't initially think of that.

Right now it's 20 frames altogether, though I'm thinking of changing the last part of the combo to an axe kick and ditching the projectile attack. Fortunately, building new animations is very fast and easy.

Coming along well sir. Will there be any light reflecting off of her when she is using her powers?

Yeah, I'm thinking of effects like this [link] but I don't want to overdo it, particularly since every character is intended to glow one way or another.

When I made an animated thing, I was terrified to shade it because I wasn't sure I could make it look even halfways proper. But then I ended up shading the individual pieces I moved around, so the shading wasn't anything remotely resembling dynamic but it did provide the depth it was supposed to. Your shading here looks cool to me!

Glad you like!

I used to shade the individual parts on previous sprites, but it's a cumbersome process. And because I wanted to incorporate more glow effects and the like on my WEAPON characters, I've gotten into the habit of shading every frame of animation individually, using the same approach I use for my illustrations (when cel shading). It only takes a minute to shade every frame and this way the shadows and highlights are more dynamic. Plus I can easily add more or less special effects on the layered files if I want to make changes later.
