Thanks a lot! I've been wanting to combine my cel shading for characters with some kind of painting in backgrounds, even though I'm no good at painting.

This is a really nice pic- the strength of the statues pose and the boy beneath adds an interesting, sort of solemn air to the scene. I also like the color and shade application on the statue's musculature. The sky color choice really helps with this- I think a bluer sky would detract from the feeling.

Thanks! Actually I found out after the fact that the client wanted the image much simpler, consisting of only six colors...I made the necessary changes for him but I liked how this illustration turned out so much that I kept a copy of it in this state. I like the foreboding feeling it brings across.

Heh, my city museum has a 1:1 replica of this fellow; yours is much more monumental. :D

And regarding its look, even when Rodin first sculpted him there was plenty of debate about who he was actually representing (some say the thinker is merely intellect itself)

I never knew much about the Thinker statue...strangely enough. I know an artist is supposed to be into this sort of thing, but I've always been terrible at history, including art history. =p But I do like the idea that it was just as physical manifestation of deep thought. Makes more sense than it being modeled after someone.

I wanted to make the sky more foreboding, but turns out it was already too many colors in the sky for the client; he wanted less.
