SS Day 5 - Christiana by Dualmask SS Day 5 - Christiana by Dualmask
Now that I seem to be over my head cold, I felt like putting a bit more energy into a drawing, both for Satellite Soda Daily Draw February and for my own sake. Been feeling like my uploads have been crappy lately.

Christiana is an interesting character of yours, and you've done a good job of bringing that interest out in this image. The flow of her cape is good, but it's the solidity of her form that really draws my eye.

Thanks! I really do like drawing her; she seems to inspire me to try just a little harder. My problem is always having too many ideas and not enough time. She's one I really want to explore someday.

Glad you like it! Nothing can replace the pleasure of getting a drawing right with just your pencil.

Pretty cool man, I do love me some sweet sweet pencil-works! You've got some pretty soft lines, sometimes dirty but overall thick, almost inky.
hehe her armor is nice too.

Armor? Where? :D Just kidding. Thanks! I wish I could pencil more cleanly; I mean, I could if I had the patience to draw over my sketch on a fresh sheet and take my time, but moving (too) fast is kind of what I do.

I hear you, starting over again kinda kills the mood a bit. Though I often just erase the whole area up to a point where I can barely make out the lines and then add the clean ones on the same page. Of course I also like when the original sketch lines get implemented into the final drawing.

See, I rarely do that because I ink digitally...a practice that has served me well, but also grows tiresome from time to time. I'm thinking I might work more traditionally when I get to the second chapter of my online graphic novel, just for a change of pace.

Ah that's true, I remember seeing your inked pieces before. I guess I wasn't really getting past the drawing stage since I hardly ever ink anything I draw. I just keep assuming that everyone kinda has the same techniques that I like to use. I know, I'm a bit self-centered. D:

Love that weapon! I only wish you had drawn her face to lend this piece some more emotional content.

Thanks! I wanted to at first, but it just wasn't working with the pose, so I decided to try something different, practice the ever-annoying underside of the chin look. Probably not the best time for the experiment, but at least it's different from the norm.

My favorite of your OCs . I think the cloth could be loosened up as it looks stiff. Other than that good work I like this character. :)

Agreed about the cloth. I edited it. Thanks a lot! Christiana seems to have a lot of fans...perhaps I should do more with her. :)

I do like this character design. As 'practical' as it is, I still like how it works graphically. Glossy metal and black fabrics. I wonder if you've thought about how to distinguish her from all her paramours, though? Both in looks and story, how is she different from Avengelyne, that Top Cow chick and Lady Death, etc?

Ah, I'm rambling. Usually I get this thought whenever I try to justify bikinis in serious narratives. I should know better.

This is one of my personal favorite designs too. She's always a joy to draw. And you've hit the nail on the head. While I'm not really all that familiar with Avengelyne, The Magdalena and the like--I know the names but I haven't read enough about them to be truly familiar with themm--I just haven't given enough thought to Christiana's story. When I was briefly drawing a comic about her, I was actually making it up as I went along, but that got tiresome. It really is hard to make such a character truly unique...though one could also argue whether it's necessary to do so.

The long and the short of Christiana is that she's either a human who's crossed over to the other side and came back with the powers of the Grim Reaper, or she's actually the Grim Reaper in human form and doesn't remember all the details. It's still sketchy.
