-Lola- by Dualmask -Lola- by Dualmask
Commission for a client from outside of dA. It's my representation of a character named Lola from the movie Transporter 2.

And yes, if the pose looks familiar, it should. It was specifically requested.

Strange that I've never drawn my signature character Nia Black in such an action-styled pose...

Not really. A legs-spread-out, look-at-my-pussy pose is not really practical in the middle of a gunfight. It only ever really happens in comic books.

Then again, dual-wielding isn't really practical either...

And Nia is, or at least was, a comic book character. Besides, practicality only matters if you're trying to be realistic.

It's a great rendition/version of the pose, and a nice pic in general. I like the glow off the barrels from the gunfire, and how it ties into the shading overall.

Now that you've drawn the pose again, how does it feel to you? That sort of seen from below shot could almost become a signature in a way.

(As for Nia, there's always time to start...)

Thanks, glad you like it! Those guns were a lot of fun to render.

The pose is just another pose to me, honestly...I doodle all kinds of crazy moves like this in my sketchbooks all the time, I just rarely take them to full illustration level because I don't usually have a pressing desire to. But it must really have an impact on viewers because another client wants their character rendered in this pose. I'm happy about it, but I personally just don't get it.

And because of that fact, if I draw Nia in such a way, it'll have to be a different approach. It would end up being up to the fourth time I drew the same pose...

The sketches that you've posted up have a lot of life and energy in them, and are very fun to look at. I wonder if they could be used as a sort of "sales brochure"- where a commissioner who wanted something lively and interesting could look at them and suggest something similar.

To be honest, pretty much any of those sketches could make for a good base for a solid finished work.

I send sketches like that to my clients often; it's really convenient to pull out my tablet wherever I am (particularly if that location has wi-fi, but if not my phone can create a hotspot), doodle up some poses and email them to a client to give them potential options. It speeds up the preliminary phase a lot because I don't have to scan anything.

I would seriously just tell Wacom to shut up and take my money if they made a portable Android Tablet/Cintiq hybrid.

I'm still surprised that no one is releasing a pressure-sensitive stylus based tablet.

Actually someone did, and apparently they worked with Wacom to create it [link] but the reviews I've read have been mixed and its pen only works with a few apps (so far). I would love to try it at least and find out for myself if it's worth it. I want Wacom to get involved directly; they're the ones to beat when it comes to pressure sensitivity.

Well, that's too bad, but at least it's a start. Hopefully we'll see something more promising soon.

That chick from Transporter 2? God, she was ultra-trashy. This is an improvement by quantum leaps.

I've had my hands full lately putting the wrap one the Vindicators origin story. (not going to be in time for New York comic con though)
Just did an interview with a local reporter that does stories related to comic art. Been doing art exchange stuff with Sykosan.
And real life, work, family, and the like have been brutal! :phew:
How about you? :)

Trying to balance doing commissions and developing personal projects as always (the balance of course is teetering way over on the commissions side...) :work: I feel like I've pretty much decided what I want to do for now, but I of course still struggle with the little voice of doubt in my head. I suppress it by staying busy. Which isn't that hard since, like you, I've got work, family and other responsibilities!

Thanks! I was kind of struggling with getting those right. You'd think someone whose flagship character is a gunslinger would have an easier time with that. =p
