Jet v. Acolyte Page 1 by Dualmask Jet v. Acolyte Page 1 by Dualmask
As mentioned in my last status update, I'm working on a short comic featuring Jet Dancer. The gist of it is here.

I can't decide whether I like the action in the middle panel or the bottom left best. I love the way you used composition in the middle panel- that's great action.

Thanks! I want to get better at illustrating Jet's high flying nature, and I'm trying different approaches. Here I tried the old school Spider Man after images approach.

Jet Dancer leaping from building to building really looks carefree and joyous. The changing colors also suggest a progression as she moves across the page, and the sky. I think it works really well to characterize her without her saying a thing.

Thanks! I pondered leaving the entire comic dialogue free to test my visual storytelling abilities, but I reneged. One of Will Eisner's books teaches that the text is part of the sequential art, not merely something added to it.

I agree that text is part if your story. You may intentionally eschew some exposition here, but the entire comic without dialogue or thought bubbles would feel jarring, lacking.

I could see you using it for an entire page or two to emphasize the action though, perhaps when both characters have nothing more to say, or need their full concentration to act, not talk.

Thanks! She really is, most of the time. Those boots tend to give me a workout but I enjoy the challenge. :D

Thanks! I thought it was a cool idea. Couldn't just leave it grayscale, not for my works. :)

Very nice contrast in this. Good use of gray values too and I like those touches of colour.

Thanks! It's the first time I'm trying something like this, it's pretty fun. Less to think about as I work.

Oh, and the Jet Dancer game is pretty much a dead project. I have to start over, and I'm not sure I can.

Not this, no. Just wanted to get myself back into a drawing groove. I'd been working on a brutal color job for the last several weeks and I wanted to do a personal project to get my groove back.
