Jet Alluring-Noir by Dualmask Jet Alluring-Noir by Dualmask
Just playing around with an old image. I revisited this image of Jet Dancer and made it a noir style image. On the left is what I came up with initially, then I decided to see what it would look like with a total black background. I could go back and try this with virtually anything I've colored digitally...it doesn't take long at all to turn all the shadows black and all the highlights white.

On the graphic novel I'm working on, I feel like a lot of the art I've done so far is less noir-ish and more "just black and white" so I need to practice really creating mood and mystery with the right application of black.

Either side works well- the left has a great logo-ish feel to it, like something that belongs on a comic cover. On the right is a noir-ish look that definitely satisfies your intentions of a moody and mysterious scene.

Glad you like it. You're the second to mention a cover, and now I know why the first person said it. If I ever make a Jet Dancer art book, the one on the left would probably work well for the cover. :)

The complete black semi silhouette piece I favor more. indicate a white contour line towards her left and this is golden.

Thanks! I'm all into the 'noir' style these days. It's amazing how much stronger a drawing becomes just with smart use of black fills and heavy shadows.

Thanks a lot! I might just have to get the other one out of here...it's clearly the inferior one.

Sexay!!!! :love: One thing that I would recommend is that you color her visible eye...I know she's got the alternating eye colors, and I think that it would bring a little more attention to her head/face if you gave some color to her pupil! :D

Thanks! I actually tried coloring the eye, but I felt in this case that it didn't add anything to the image that the glowing segments didn't do well enough. Only because of the darkness of it all, I thought the glowing parts were more than enough selective color without the eye.

Hmm...how would you feel by making her eye glow like the other glowing colors? I know her eyes don't normally glow, but it would look pretty cool! 8-)

The look of black and white combined with the colorful glow of certain objects works excellently IMO :D I dunno which background works better though, it's hard to explain why ^^;

The one on the left gives a lot more information than the other one, so depending upon the individual viewer, either one could work. The one on the right is definitely the more textbook noir style image though.

Hmm... I think both could actually be good, depending on whether you want to make the character more mysterious (which would work better for Nia than Jet IMO)

My thoughts exactly. Sadly I have precious little Nia images in full color broken up into layers to experiment upon.

Thanks! I like the one on the right too, except it doesn't give a clear idea as to how long the character's hair is. If not for the other images to reference it, the hair would probably look strange to first-time viewers.

maybe you could outline the hair just a little more to show the flow and length?
