JD: Dance 1 Page 9.3 by Dualmask JD: Dance 1 Page 9.3 by Dualmask
I've been spending more time working on my Jet Dancer graphic novel. I'm not making the greatest progress, but as a wise man once said, it doesn't matter how slow you go, as long as you don't stop. Or something like that.

This is one of my favorite panels from the book I've done so far. While Jet is known for her happy-go-lucky look, she wasn't always that way. The graphic novel shows the force behind Jet's transition, among other things.

Working on this book has me posting a lot less art than I usually do, particularly when I'm squeezing this in between commissions (that's not the case now, but it was last month). I'm trying to make sure this doesn't go out like all my other comic attempts of the past, where I said I was going to do this and that, but ended up giving up on my projects. So despite a desire to post everything I'm doing, I am trying to do things differently this time around.

Jet Dancer may not be my best idea or deepest character, but something about her is keeping me moving, and I'm feeling good about that. So even though sometimes I feel bouts of self-doubt for various reasons, I'm proud of myself for the progress I've made and will continue to make.

My goal is to have the whole book done by the end of this year, with the first chapter totally finished by the end of April 2014. It's kind of a tight deadline, but I believe I can do it.

Jet: I can't believe Random mistook that picture for DM's art a few weeks ago.

:iconlaughingplz: I joke, very nice man I love the art! :)

Haha, yeah, you know how fragile Jet's emotions are! That kind of mistake makes Jenna a sad bunny. :crying:

I'm really sorry I did that, I was going too fast that day and I didn't look it over well enough.

I believe so too. It's really hard resisting the 'ooh shiny' part of my spirit that wants to do new things all the time, but I keep reminding myself that I have to do things differently if I want to get different...and better...results.

It's been a while. :) The pages I've been working on to date focused on other members of Jet's team, but now her chance to get in on the action is coming.

Well there's many different ways to arrive at "greatness" to be sure...! I think a lot of people think they can just make it happen on their first try but there's so much to overcome in terms of competition, marketing, and brand longevity.

I like this composition too. ☺

I figure I have to finish this. No matter how I feel about it day in and day out as it ebbs and flows between high momentum :floating: and "why am I doing this again? :depressed:", I have to prove to myself that I have the ability to do this. It's like Neil Gaiman's quote says, "You'll learn more from a glorious failure than you will from something that isn't finished." Greatness can and just might come later, but not if I keep looking for the "perfect" concept to develop instead of just developing.

Thanks! :D

I'm not really sure the most iconic characters that everyone knows and remembers started out as deep characters, but became that way.  Jet is a type of character I can imagine (with time and effort put in of course) becoming so much more though. :)

I keep telling myself that...that Jet can grow into having depth. it's one of the things that keeps me going. My other ideas like WCL and Nia Black started out extremely simplistic too.
