I like the update in this version- all those heavy mechs and low-level goons are pretty intimidating foes!

Thanks! I think I've got a pretty good starter variety now...perhaps a flying enemy to finish it all off.

This looks pretty cool, like a side-scroller fighting game.

Thanks. Yeah, that's one idea I have...kind of making the action follow the story I wrote, changing up the playable characters by chapter with gameplay like Guardian Heroes or Streets of Rage.

But that may be too ambitious for my level of experience and I may ultimately go simpler. I don't want to try to do too much too soon.

If the idea is a side scroller, maybe just make it with one character or two selectable characters, then when all done, add more and more :)  Be like then old arcade TMNT game.  Where the difference is just look of the attacks.

I think that's a fine idea. It made me think of how simple Grand Theft Auto used to be and now it's killing it!

Nice work.  The first thing that popped into my mind when looking at this is the game Streets of Rage.

Thanks! I was inspired by Streets of Rage, among other things... mostly Guardian Heroes.

Thanks! It's a lot of fun building these sprites but I've got to stop shying away from the hard work of logic and animation if I ever want to get anywhere with it... ^^;

So far, so good- but I like that Gallic Shrug second from the left the most. It seems that the enemy has gynoids as well as androids.

Thanks! Something popped in my head--I asked myself, why are most 'goons' in games male? Why are females treated as rare enemy types, if they're present at all? I decided that the main enemy in whatever game I make, the Goombas if you will (or the Williams if you want to go the Double Dragon route), were going to be female. I whipped that armored gal up in like an hour and felt real good about it.

I can see where you are coming from, but my suggestion is to make the Goombas at least half male and half female. That way, people won't get the wrong idea.

You know, I thought about that as soon as I wrote it. I think you're right. I figured since the violence in my plans is a lot more indirect (a lot more laser blasting than punching and kicking) it wouldn't come off as indiscriminate violence against women, but I think you're right, it would be easy to see things the wrong way.

I think I'm going to create a male mook right away.

Looking good. I'm working on a game too. I would love to demo it when it comes out.

Thanks! What kind of game are you making? I'm trying to resolve some design elements, realizing I need to curb my ambitions a bit. I figure if I can get one level working with a few characters and some functional gameplay, I'll be off to a great start.

I'm working on a 2D beat 'em up (Final Fight/Streets of Rage style).

We had to start over so many times. Getting new  coders. Most of the ones we've had were flakes.

Ah, the coding part. Yeah, I don't do so well with that either. It's why I've gotten to know programs like Game Maker and Stencyl. They're good for a start, especially for someone who generally works alone.

I might have to check these out. Game Maker and Stencyl that is.

I've spent a lot of time studying the ins and outs of both...I'd say Game Maker is more user friendly in the beginning, but Stencyl's system avoids many of the hurdles Game Maker makes you jump through to get anything done. I think GM helps you think more like an engineer as far as building the logic of your game, while Stencyl is geared toward helping you get up and running as fast as possible and leaving the heavy lifting to the background.
