The braking movement really sells this sprite sequence, along with her hair inertia. This is a good solid animated piece- and wouldn't look out of place in a good quality game.

Thanks a lot! That was something some folks mentioned when I made Jet dash in the past; the skid-stopping animation, so I wanted to make sure I did it this time, and did it well.

Thanks! Animating it...not so tough. Making the sprite move the way I want her to in the game...that's proving difficult.

Why? Because of the animation code?

Mainly because I can make her animate this way, but coding her to actually move forward quickly and then slow down quickly with the right animations is tricky in the program I'm using. But I'll figure it out...I'm kind of good at solving problems.

All I need to do is stop trying to do everything at once...

What program is it? Not Flash? Not Photoshop?

I do the sprites in Flash and Photoshop, but for the game programming, I'm using something called Construct 2.

Construct 2 over Game Maker? Because it's very straight forward right?

Yeah, I've been experimenting with a lot of engines and I found that Construct 2 seems to be the easiest to use. But I was able to make Jet dash pretty painlessly in Game Maker a couple of years ago. I have to figure out C2's "custom movement" to get it working there, and I don't quite get it yet.

Didn't know you were familiar with Construct, Game Maker and the like.

Looks awesome man.. so how long does it take you to do a small sequence like above?

Not long at all. I sketch it up on paper first, and since I build my sprites by reusing parts from a Flash library, it doesn't take long to pose a figure just the way I want it frame by frame. Most of the time spent is scrubbing the animation (playing it back and forth frame by frame) and tweaking it to make sure it looks okay.
