Comic Layout Sheet by Dualmask Comic Layout Sheet by Dualmask
I created this, inspired by a thumbnail sheet someone else made a while back: Thumbnail Template by Essency...I decided to make my own version that suited the way I plan my comics. It supports only 12 pages, but one could easily print out or prepare more sheets to make more pages for a larger book. It focuses on showing which pages would face each other in a print book, and the guides on the sides of each frame allow for a number of general panel layouts or even a rule-of-thirds approach for covers and splashes.

I made it available as a .PSD with separate text layers for the Title, Chapter, etc. that can easily be modified or deleted as the user sees fit. Feel free to download and use to your heart's content if you like...no need to credit me or ask.

I like the approach you took on it.

I like this guide- by having fewer pages, it's easier for me to see what's happening on each page. The large notes section could prove valuable, and is a nice touch.

Thanks! I've actually been putting it to good use myself and it really is helpful. I often print out copies at work and just experiment with ideas.

I've been wanting to do something like this for myself. Didn't exactly know how to approach it. This will come in real handy man. Thank you!

I wouldn't have had this idea if it weren't for your original design. Thanks for the inspiration!

That's a good tool for you...I'm constantly trying to mix my panels while staying in the traditional boxes :)

These frames do make it hard to come up with more elaborate, dynamic panel layouts, but I've been finishing pages using them, and that's what counts.

I've been planning a graphic novel since late January and this sheet is like a God-send, man.

I hope it comes in handy for you! I've been using a more rudimentary version of this for years (trying to, anyway), but that one I linked in my comments had additions that inspired me to design a more efficient one. Hopefully putting this to use will help me overcome the obstacles keeping me from making WCL comics come to life.

I usually thumbnail it on paper and it all makes sense to me, but your sheets look nice and neat----efficient. It's all good. I hope to see more WCL pages from you. The whole concept is pretty tight, my friend.

Thanks. It's definitely going to happen. In fact, you might notice I added a little 'Deadline' section on this sheet... it's time to start giving myself due dates and sticking with them.

Amen to that. Heck, concerning my graphic novel, I want to have something together before the end of the year. Deadlines will be a necessary evil, but I don't know any other way to get things done. Really, it's all a labor of love, but combine self doubt, life's frustrations, and Playstation 3, well...

Here's to slaying demons.
