Beloved Weapon test page by Dualmask Beloved Weapon test page by Dualmask
I dropped my attempt at a webcomic based on my Nia Black Novel two years ago. Yet for some reason, I spent the time since then adding a line here and there to the last page I was on, little by little, and then I finished it...for some reason.

I've been pondering picking it back up. Working on Jet Dancer was great but I have other stories--deeper stories--I want to tell in visual format, and technically, Nia's story is the only one I've actually finished writing. Plus, she is my original femme fatale...

How does this look? I'm serious about wanting critiques on it.

I like the minimalistic use of color here. :) Of course now you got me wondering what the significance of Nia's pendant is...

As far as critique goes, I'm liking the framing of the scenes. The last panel is okay as it draws our attention to Charlie. I just think there's minor issues with the setting that can be fairly easy to resolve. The big one for me is the floor- you broke it up in a strange way with those cut lines. It'd feel more like a spacious environment if the floor had way more lines, maybe even a checkerboard pattern. Otherwise, consider making the entire floor black and just having the tops of everyone and their tables lit up, with the exception being Charlie who'd be more fully lit.

Anyway, nice to see you giving this novel another shot. :)

I really like the inking and black and white look. Very appealing visually.

Thanks! A lot of folks praise me on my full color, but I read a book called "How to Draw Noir Comics" and it made me very interested in rendering my art this way. It's fast and a lot of fun.

Cool. Yeah, most prefer color images, but I prefer a beautiful black and white work any day.
