Very cuddly and cute!

Interesting colors.  The choice of yellow, red, blue, and white go well with Twilight's and Spike's natural purple.  And I love Spike's stocking cap and Twilight's earmuffs.  They're very fun to look at.

Winter has been cold over here in the States.  Arctic air pushing the wind-chill down to -50 degrees Fahrenheit, slippery roads, snow falling every other week.  But on the days when it's not extreme (which are more frequent than few, thankfully), I find the days coated with beautiful snow and calm winter scenery.  I won't lie, I enjoy the season of winter.  I really do.

Plus, it makes art like this all the sweeter.

I thought Spike was holding an egg from the thumbnail but I think that's just Twilight's hoof.

Very adorable Key!

Pretty cute, I like this. Quite appropriate for the cold winter in the US and Canada right now. It's actually unusually warm in where I'm living right now- quite weird.
It's very nice to see fanart with a touch of humanity- and I see the direction of this artwork pretty clearly- I just got a few suggestions here and there :)

I see that you used a similar shade of magenta for both Spike and Twilight. I understand that they are both purple, but visually it may look like they are 'clumped' together. From the looks of it Spike is in front of Twilight. When it snows, the visibility is often very low- I think you could take advantage of that. Basically, what I did in this Photoshop edit is that I added a translucent layer of white over Twilight, which indicates that she is further behind in the snowy atmosphere. To make Spike pop out more as well, you could also create a shadow on the scarf and front legs that is casted by by the head. If I'd work on it further I would also soften the tones of that shadow to create further depth as well.

As for the colours- I like the colour choice of complementary colours with the yellow egg/scarf and the purple of Spike and Twilight. But to me the colours seem a little bit too oversaturated- I'd see why though- because that's pretty much the design of MLP so there's no avoiding the brighter, more technicolour range of colours. I guess I would still use those bright colours, but do so sparingly- probably in key focal points like Spike or Twilight's face. I might reduce the saturation for other parts such as Twilight's hair or Spike's wooly hat and egg. Therefore the viewer's attention would be directed at the correct space. Honestly, figuring out the colour and lighting for this piece would be slightly difficult and ambiguous due to the snow- and everything being showered with white light which doesn't help when it comes to the choice of colours, so I don't really know.

But anyways, this is still a great piece of fanart and it made my day- it captured the relationship between the two characters pretty well and it's very relevant to the current weather. Really hope this helped and keep up with the great work!

I'm glad to hear you like the artwork :) I always like to draw those two!

However, it seems to me that atmospheric perspective you suggest is ununjustified - they are meant to be very close (Spike holds her hoof in his hands) and your effect separates them - almost as if Twilight was just a fading memory. I have chosen to create foucs throught the lighter and blurred edges around them and kept the shadows to the bare minium, since the light souce bounces off the white snow and shouldn't produce any dark shadows, such as the one you suggested.

Scarf and hats colours are borrowed from the show and I don't think that desaturation would benefit this kind of simple illustration :)

I agree- I guess I was a bit too heavy handed with the white, sorry about that, but yes I see what you mean- in hindsight it does look like a fading memory and the white snow reflecting from the ground :P- I guess the head may be slightly brighter though due to the additional skylight? I guess it just really depends on weather conditions but that's just way too much detail to think about haha.

Yeah I guess desaturation would reduce the cartoony effect on the scarf- in fact I do go overboard with desaturation sometimes- my art teacher says that my paint mixture is often too pastel lol. Btw- just askin- is the colours from the episode in season one where they're trying to turn the seasons from autumn to spring?

If you look closely, you can spot a gentle primary light on the left side of Twilight's mane and Spike's hat, as I imagine some of the sun shines throught the clouds. But perhaps it could have been more intensive

To be fair, saturation (and value) is tricky to master and I don't claim this one is perfetly balanced, hahah :) The outfits are from Xmas special titled "The Best Gift Ever".
