Squishy jelly emote

Squishy! :iconwantplz:

This week was experimenting time with different kinds of shading on my new emote. Normally I'm using a shading method that a lot of emoticonists are using, and more and more are doing so as well. (light coming from the left top corner and a bit on the right lower corner and visa versa)
Atm I'm kinda tired of it, doesn't feel like my emotes are unique qua shading :(
I figured to let most of the light come from the top, creating a different effect, alongside some usage of darker colors unlike the light colors that I normally use.
I had a very small period that I've used this method, and it seems I've fallen back to it again ^^

I also went back to the classic emote eyes since more people also use the famous big emote eyes. I had some unique big eyes amongst other big eyes, but some people started to copy my eyes as well, kinda disappointing, but also a bit flattering... confusing ey?

Classic emote eyes like this =) are timeless. It's how it all started.
I played with the shading on them as well, and while doing so I found out that along with the new shaded body and shaded eyes/mouth it looked rather squishy and jelly like... squishy candy! :excited:
So that's why made his body squish along with it :aww:
What's your view on this new style, and the whole shading/animation...

When I opened my new deviation window this emoticon first jumped to my eyes and I was who made this emoticon then I saw it's droneguard.
Ok on emote critique part.
The new shading it's great and you not often see this dark shading.
Clasic eyes fit's this emoticons prety good, but I wonder how big eyes would look on this shadig.
The expresions on both emoticons are great.
The bouncing efect is done good, but the taping doesn't seem to be hard enough to make him bounce that much. Speeding it a bit would fix the problem.

It isn't actually bouncing, it's a squishy wobbling jelly emote :D
when you tap jelly, doesn't it wobble and go all directions? That was the intention of creating the animation.
Big eyes on this shading... perhaps I should give it a try :plotting:

Thanks for your critique oktanas :)

Shading is fantastic. I think though something that could help it is a shade from one color to another colour so it looks spunky. Like =LeoLeonardo's tackle emote.
I think maybe the shading could be slightly lighter too, but is probably not needed. If you decide not too, I think the outline could be slightly darker, but that's again my personal opinion.

I think the eyes are fine. If anything he darkening of the eyes could be a concern, as it almost seems as if it's being antialiased unless that's what intended. I still like it though. The highlights beneath his eyes are great; I really get the sense of depth and as though he has a nose.
Eyes, in my opinion though, can be a sign of one's style, but it really depends on the look you're trying to achieve. As you can see in my recent submissions, my emoticons' eyes change again every now and then. I just find it extremely annoying when you can't get that dramatic face across to the viewer without changing the main style of eyes.

But enough about me ranting on.

The animation is flawless. Fluid, smooth, squishy... all the elements you need to make a fantastic emote.

The new style, overall, fits perfectly for any emote. Just remember, you do not have to stick with this for every design you do: every now and then, drag in your old emote's shading for an animation.
Because this shading is so detailed and attractive, I personally think you should use this style for small animations or static. You don't want the overuse of 'drawing-to-attention' effect on the body in longer and more animation based animations.
But then again, it is your choice.

Great style, however, and I'll be looking forward to seeing this used in the next few emotes.
I use way too many words.

Thank you for your critique :#1:

At first I thought of doing that color thing that you're suggesting, but I wanted to focus more on the shading itself then the colors. I can always change that though, good idea m8 :eyes:

I didn't had the intention of creating a anti aliased effect on the eyes, but more like a certain depth... like when you carve eyes into clay with a knife (hope that makes sense :giggle:)
And you're very right with the last part of your writing. Small and short animations require in my opinion a more detailed style

Again thanks for your words :highfive:

This emoticon is super awesome! The way that the blue emote squiggles is very realistic. Absolutely no fluency errors and the expressions are perfect.

I love the shading style of the work. Make more plz!
