Steampunk Pistol w Laser Sight

By
My latest creation, the Gaslight Gun! A tiny gas lantern rests atop a small chamber, with two loupes to focus the light. One loupe is a beam focuser, the other is a ruby, which makes the 'dot' appear red. A small wired switch ignites the lamp and the loupes focus the beam down to a small red dot, showing you exactly where your weapon is aimed.

This is a modified Nerf Maverick with a decorative embellishment along the bottom. The 'gas cannister' is an airsoft laser site, and the lenses are jeweler's loupes. The small lamp is exactly that, one designed for a dollhouse.

Am i right in thinking that that's a painted nurf gun. If so wow that's incredible painting

Absolutely gorgeous! May I ask you where you got the embellishment? I'd really like to do something similar with my gun!

awesome job! i love the laser pointer idea! =D what'd you make the embellishment out of and how did you attach both the laser and embellishment?

Wow, this is very well made! I am currently working on one now, using a different model of nerf gun, and it is not cooperating as well as I had hoped. Nice effect with the color blotching, i just used a little sandpaper to give it the weathered look. Yours is far better than mine though, well done sir!

Nice colors. Did you use shellac on it as well?

A matte finish clear coat, but yes.

dthat is freaking awesome. How did you do that thing with the leather on the handle?
I'm modding a Steampunk Maveric and want to use the idea.

Thanks! You literally just cut a butterfly shape out of leather (you can usually by small pieces at leather shops or craft stores) and glue it directly to the gun. Before cutting it out of the leather, I made a pattern out of fabric that I placed over the sunken area of the grip (if you look at your Maverick, you'll see that there's a separated area that has little nubs all over it) and then traced out the shape. Then I cut out the leather, rolling the edge of the leather under after stretching it over the grip so that it ended up with a finished edge.

Sweet as, dude. thanks. It's a great idea and I'll give it a shot.

Looks almost exactly like two lines of Nerf gun the Toys-r-Us I work at sells.

That's because it is!

what did you use on the grip? I have been doing some research on these and I love what you have done with the grip
DrJubal's avatar
You just cut a butterfly shape out of a piece of garment leather the same size as the grip and use an industrial epoxy resin to glue it into place.

Hi...
This really looks good.
I found it on Google search and then realized that it actually was a deviation from deviant art...
I've got a little favor to ask, I want to use this image in one of my university assignments where we have to select an image of an actual model and then re-render it and I was wondering if I have the permission to use this image?

Thanks
DrJubal's avatar
Of course you may, thank you for asking.
Du-Da's avatar
Thanks for permission but since I got your response a bit too late, I had to use another image from the same design...
Thanks anyway...

Time Very well spent, it shows. Many Nerf Maverick steampunk guns but this is by far my favorite I have come across!

Wow, that's fantastic! You obviously put a lot of time and effort into that. I'm steampunking a few things for my art A level; hoping to do a pistol eventually - I have an old plastic blunderbuss type thing that I think will do the job :D
i'll be sure to send you a link once they're all finished and I've uploaded photos. :)
Oh please tell me which rub'n buff color you used for this copper tone! I've been ramming my head against a wall with acrylic metallics that are just not the right color. I'm painting an airzooka for a steampunk costume.

I looked up rub'n buff but the copper I saw spanish copper only and it looked much darker than yours...
