Chapter 63 The Wedding, Part 3 The Reception After Michael and Amanda left the altar, Reginald and Victoria approached each other and Reginald offered her his arm. They followed Michael and Amanda down the aisle. After Reginald and Victoria passed the first row, the groomsmen approached the bridesmaids each offering his corresponding bridesmaid his arm and escorting her down the aisle. After the groomsmen and bridesmaids passed the first row of seats, the ushers started allowing the families of the wedding party to head toward the Reception Hall. After the families left, the guests were allowed to leave. When they arrived in the Reception Hall, Michael and Amanda were led to a wall next to the double doors where they were instructed to stand to receive the well wishes of everyone who had been invited to the wedding. This was the most boring part of the wedding as far as Michael was concerned. He had never been one to draw undue attention to himself when he was

Chapter 62 The Wedding, Part 2 The Ceremony Michael stood in front of the mirror that had been set up in the Padre’s office in the local chapel. He was desperately trying to tie the bow tie for his tuxedo, was losing the battle mightily and quietly calling down curses on the tie every time he failed. Nearby, the Groom’s Witness, Reginald Reynard, III, was losing his battle to hold in his laughter. With each passing second and each failed attempt at tying the tie, Reginald’s laughter became more and more noticeable. Finally, Michael couldn’t take it any more. “What is só funny?” “Watching you wrestle with that bow tie.” Reginald replied as he started to laugh out loud. “I suppose you could do better.” “Yes, infinitely better.” Under his breath, Michael replied, “Of course, you can.” Out loud, he said, “You’ve probably been tying them your whole life.” “No, not my whole life, but I have been since I was six.” “Well, why haven’t you offered to

Chapter 61 The Wedding Part I The Rehearsal Michael left his office and practically knocked Amanda down as he walked out the door. He caught her just before she lost her balance and fell. “Sweetheart!” He said, in shock. “I wasn’t expecting you to be there! Are you all right?” Amanda wrapped her arms around him and gave him a quick kiss. ‘Yes. I wanted to surprise you so we could walk to my car together.” “Well Hun, I am going to pick you up in an hour or so to take you to the rehearsal.” “I know but why should we change our routine just because we’ll be married in less than 24 hours?” Michael thought for a few seconds before saying, “I can’t think of a single reason why we should.” Amanda took Michael’s arm and they walked out of the SoGa Industries building. A couple of minutes later they arrived at Amanda’s car where they reacquainted themselves with each other for several minutes before Michael finally told her he had to get home so he could get ready to

Chapter 60 A Gathering of Families Talking on the telephone, Tigresa was saying, “No! Don’t you dare give me any excuses! You bring your butt and everything attached to it over here tonight! You got that, young man!?” Laughter could be heard coming out of the earpiece followed by, “Young man? Me?” Smiling, Tigresa said, “You know what I mean, Michael. And don’t forget to pick Amanda up. We have something very important to discuss with the two of you after dinner. Besides, Anne is very unhappy that her brother and ‘Manna’ haven’t visited in so long. And if you don’t get your fur-less monkey butt over here before quick, I might just decide to find out why my feral ancestors loved to eat monkeys. Got it?” “Yes ma’am! Pick up Amanda and get my fur-less monkey butt and everything attached over there before quick! On my way, ma’am!” Tigresa hung up the telephone and heard a familiar male voice say, “Don’t you think you were a little rough on him, Tigresa?”

Chapter 59 Michelle’s Family The reception was catered by the most expensive caterer in Catlanna. Mr. Blaidd had said that his silent partners had said that they wished to do something for all the couples getting married and paying for the catering of the wedding receptions was what they had decided to do. Even though the caterers were the most expensive in Catlanna, they catered any kind of party from a multi-millionaire’s birthday party to a small gathering for a family that made less than 50,000 Yenars a year. Since the tastes of Michelle and Albert weren’t on the same plane as the Reynard family, the caterers adjusted their menu accordingly. After everyone had entered the reception hall, Amanda attached herself to Michael’s arm causing him to smile happily. However, when he looked into her eyes, he saw the glare that he had seen earlier. His only thought was, “Oops.” “What were you thinking about when you were supposed to give the wedding band to the Padre?”

Chapter 58 Michelle’s Wedding The next month was a hectic one for Michael and Amanda. They had four weddings to attend, plus plan their own. Reginald and Rosa were first. Even though the Lobo-Rojo family was content to wait a few months, after all, they had been waiting for three years already, Reginald wanted the wedding to take place as quickly as possible. He kept saying he had waited those three years to marry Rosa and he had been remiss in being a daddy to Hernando. Jokingly, he added that he wanted to marry Rosa before she realized that she could do better. This argument convinced the Lobo-Rojos to agree to a relatively quick wedding especially since Hernando was now weaned and they knew that Rosa would start going into her heat cycles shortly. After the wedding, Reginald moved Rosa and Hernando into the Reynard estate and offered her family a place there as well; however, Alejandro said no because he believed a married couple didn’t need family around all the time

Chapter 57 Reginald Officially Proposes “Rosa,” Reginald said, “you remember your father and brother threatened to kill me if they ever saw me again. Right?” “Yes. If you do as I asked, you will prove your love for me and you will prove you are a man.” Reginald couldn’t sweat but, he was panting hard. He turned hes head to look at Michael and Michael could see pure unadulterated fear in his eyes. Michael said, “Reginald, how about Amanda and I accompany you to Rosa’s home. Her family thinks very highly of us. I’m sure they won’t kill you while we’re there.” Michael was smiling as he said the last. Reginald, however, was less than amused. “Very funny, Michael.” “Do you want her family to forgive and accept you?” “Yes.” “Then, we’ll do it my way.” “Be sure you put ‘He trusted a human’ on my tombstone.” Michael, Rosa, and Olivia laughed heartily. Olivia said, “Rosa’s family knows that I’m Rosa’s employer, Reginald. How about I go with all of you and

Chapter 56 Reginald’s Grandmother As they left Juanita’s Cantina, Reginald caught Michael’s arm and said, “What did you mean when you said that I would do the right thing in a very short amount of time?” “Just follow me and you’ll see.” They crossed the street and walked down the block until they reached the corner where Reginald had been standing when Michael found him earlier. Instead of stopping at the corner, Michael rounded it and headed straight for the house that Reginald had been looking at. “Michael, where are we going?” Reginald said as he started slowing down. Michael stopped and waited for Reginald to catch up. “Reg,” he said, “would you like me to stop calling you Reg?” “You know I would, Michael, but, what does going to that house have to do with you calling me Reg?” “What did I tell you earlier about why I started calling you Reg again?” “You said it was because I was being stupid.” “Exactly. If you want to convince me you aren’t stupid,

Chapter 55 Michael Learns a Bit about Reginald After Senior had been led away, Reginald stood there in shock. It had never occurred to him that his grandfather, someone he had practically worshiped his whole life, could have contemplated any illegal activity but he also knew that the national law enforcement agencies didn’t just walk in and arrest someone without thoroughly investigating any claims of impropriety against that person. Meanwhile, Michael, who had watched as Senior was led away, turned and looked at Amanda with a small smile on his face. Amanda saw the smile and looked at him curiously. He walked to her bedside and, ignoring the fact that her mother could see, he bent down, and gave her a gentle kiss. “I’m sorry,” Michael said, Amanda said, “Why, Michael? Why did you act like that? You could have told me what you were going to do.” “I had to do that, Sweetheart. I needed your reactions to be honest and natural. Mr. Reynard’s no fool. He would

Chapter 54 The Escape Clause Albert and Michael studied the contract almost every day for two months. It was the most complicated contract that Michael had ever read, including contracts he had read during college. He was constantly complaining that he couldn’t understand what was written. “Isn’t there a law that says that contracts are supposed to be understandable by laymen?” He would ask. Albert would laugh and say, “Yes. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of leeway in the definition of ‘layman’.” “Well, this ‘layman’ can’t understand a word of this damned contract. It’s the most convoluted thing I’ve ever tried to understand.” Albert laughed again and went back to reading. Finally, something clicked. Albert turned back a couple of pages and reread something. Then, he read it again and then, a third time. After reading the section three times, Albert slowly stood catching Michael’s attention. “Michael,” Albert said, “I think I found it.” “What?” “Go to page 12
