Male Red-back Spider

Latrodectus hasselti. Not that I realised he was a Red-back, until I got the photos home and blew them up far enough to spot the red hourglass on his underside. Whoops.

I wasn't in much danger anyway. Male Red-back venom causes mild symptoms at worst. It it had been a female, it might have been a different story, but female redbacks are very different in shape, and lack the giant pair of pedipalps hanging off this one's face. No doubt he was off hunting for a female to die for.

I never touch spider unless the little jumping ones... :P

When i was a little kid i almost get bitten by Loxosceles gaucho, also know here by Aranha Marrom, in the same day i saw the effects of their venom! :( Almost deadly to adults... from that day on i never touch a spider! :P

*nods* understandable caution, but bear in mind that Loxosceles is the ONLY spider known to produce serious bites like that.

Yeah yeah! I was so dumb (or innocent) i used to handle loxosceles without any restrition... :P

well, as long as you didn't pinch them or scare them they probably just thought you were part of the scenery

My least favourite spider ^_^;;
Reminds me when I was little and we were looking at a house we were planning to buy. We go into the garage, there is at least 15 in there, mostly female too. After that, decided we weren't going to buy the place :P

you probably needn't have worried. Nobody has died of a red-back bite since the 50s.

Redbacks and Whitetails are very pretty spiders :) they could be turned in to an anime character quite easily with the distinct coloring they have

Yes not forgetting that redbacks can be deadly, it can become an awesome action/fighter anime.

Sadly the most beautiful things can be the most deadly :(
