Living Room - Green by drewbrand Living Room - Green by drewbrand
My first foray into 3D interior renders.

I've been wanting to try one for a long time, so I used [link] as a reference. The modeling was really quick, as was the texturing (note the awful chairs). It's not meant to look exactly as the reference, it was more of a guide so I didn't have to design something as well.

The render settings were pretty low too. Shadow samples, glossy reflection samples, and render samples were all mid range.

There's a lot of room to improve before I'd be happy with the quality, but for a first I guess it's not too bad...

3ds max, mental ray and Photoshop.

Drew

PS - I don't remember where the trees in the window were from. If you recognize the photo as yours, let me know and I'll gladly give you credit.

you did a nice job on recreating your reference picture, that's hard to do usually (at least when I trie it)!

the chair textures actually don't bother me too much. i'd rather see some shadows on the star above the fireplace. that's one hell of a "foray." nice work.

Thanks. I'm actually not sure why the star didn't come out with more shadows. I was a little surpised about that when it came out.

That's what people always say about mental ray in general. It's not that difficult, just not as easy as vray's "make pretty" button =P

totally. thats why mentalray renders usually have some unique look, when vray ones usually are very similar...
