The Demon of Bournesbrooke

© 2011 - 2019 Dreamspirit
This piece was completed on July 21st, 2008

This is based off a scene in one of my (yet unfinished) novels, and was a great excuse to work on my digital painting skill set. One of my goals was to have a more dynamic scene and background than I was often prone to render.

You can watch the video of how it was made here on YouTube

this is beautiful. The demon's snarl, claws... and those fiery ruins especially. I hope you are able to finish your book... I'll keep an eye out for it :]

Thank you so very much. :) I really learned a lot from working on this piece (and the composition for it), and am looking forward to when I'm at the "publishing" stage of my books (which is still a few years off, realistically). Until then, at least I can share some of the art I've created that was inspired by it. :)

Nice. It's interesting how you've used the more resolved portion to pull the focus to the space between the demon and its opponent.

Thanks! :) I'll definitely admit that the composition was a WIP from start to finish since it was based off such a teeny tiny sketch. I'm still not sure if I like that certain sections have a bit of original drawing/"outline" remaining, but I think at the time that was more a type of experimentation to try to pull focus, since at the time I recall I was suffering for longer than I intended from "Characters standing around smiling and not doing anything"-itis. ;)

This looks great! I love how the demon fades into the background.

Thank you! I think around the time I was doing this I was realizing that I wanted to play around with the idea of forms in the background having less contrast than those in the foreground, so this was a fun little experiment. :)
