I completed the line-art for this on 09/09/2010, but I recently commissioned
for a plush doll version of him (in progress!) and realized that I never figured out a color-scheme for this particular character, for as many times as I'd drawn him, it has always been in greyscale! He's an olden character of mine from many years ago: a cross between a lion and a kirin (oriental unicorn).
This is the "final" result of a quick color paint-over guide of only the Loirin that I ended up settling on, and this is the incredible finished plush doll commission completed based on this design:
This piece started out as an inked "sketch" that was about the size of a postage stamp (one inch by one inch, so the anatomy is a bit... "eh"). I scanned it and then toned it in Photoshop. I wanted to make something sweet for my grandmothers that was cuddly and fantasy-ish, and I liked the idea of there being a touch of a story (that the Liorin and the bunny are watching the first blossom of Spring).
Both of my grandmothers actually passed away within the last seven months, so this piece is actually even more special to me now to have been able to share this special character with them, and for them to have been able to see fantasy art a bit more through my eyes (that it's not all evil and scary monsters).
An even older iteration of him can be found here: Lio-rin (Lion Kirin) Small Sketch ~ August 29, 2005
