This is my first time uploading a "walkthrough" piece to DeviantArt and I hope you enjoy it! This is an older piece, "Dragon Mage", which I started in mid 2006 and "finished" in mid 2008.

Dragon Mage - 05-01-2008 - Traditional Inks, Copic Marker Gray-Scale, and Digital Color in Photoshop CS2

Please let me know if you have any feedback so I can create more helpful walkthroughs in the future!

Yep! That little dragon hung around for awhile until I convinced myself that he just.... wasn't cutting it so far as giving the guy in the foreground a "setting" or purpose. ;)

Thanks so much for the compliments, though, I'm glad you enjoyed this!

I think you're being to hard on yourself. Every time you said, "I'm ashamed of this or this," I had my mouth open and I swear I was drooling. You are really, really talented. The background is so creative and awesome, and the dragon is FANTASTIC! Amazing job, from the looks of it it took forever.

First off: thank you for taking the time to leave me feedback. :)

I definitely might be being a bit hard on myself over a piece that is over six years old at this point. I think it might just be one of those things that after you stare at a piece for so long, you just see all the flaws and things you wish you would have done differently to make the final product better, or to just make the process easier on myself. Ah well though: it's all a learning process, so all I can do is just show what I know and hope that people out there can learn something from the successes and failures. The failure parts are definitely where I learn the most. ;)

I am so glad that you liked the background and figure. I really did put a lot of effort into experimenting and learning for this piece, so it is really awesome to hear others out there like it. :)

So: thank you!

You're welcome!
The piece really has very few flaws and that's one of the reasons why I'm so in awe of it. I guess if you look at it for a very long time, a few more start to appear, but they are so small they could hardly be called flaws. Keep up the awesome work!

That's a huge, humbling compliment to me so thank you! As long as you keep working at it you will certainly get to where you want to be. :) If there's ever anything I can do to help, just let me know!

For starters, assuming all is done on a apple or mac computers, I would like to know how and what software(s) do you utilize to get to this level of amazement.

The inking on this particular piece was actually done freehand on sketch paper before I moved on to using greyscale markers to tone it. After that, I scanned it into my computer and then used Photoshop CS2 to add color to it. :) (The greyscale version was completed in 2006 and the color version was completed in 2008). I don't use a mac or apple computer, but instead use a PC a built myself. Both types of computers offer Photoshop, however. :)
