Cherry opened her eyes from the recurring dreams from her past. She remembered the night that she met the Snake King. He saved her life from the fox, gaining nothing in return. After he'd disappeared into the brush, the young rabbit returned home to sleep. The next morning, she told her mother and her brothers about leaving the farm and the snake that saved her life.
Her brothers laughed at her and called her silly, and her mother told her that it was just a dream. But Cherry showed the cut on her foreleg when she tumbled down the hill. However, her mother simply answered that there must have been some bramble in their bedding that the farmer must have collected. But Cherry knew it had happened. Years past since that day.

Grumbling to herself Aly tried to ignore the squeaky insults and kept staring into the dark blank with all her attention, trying to determine the flow of her sibling’s magical trace.
