skreem by ~dreamfloatingby You really can't get much more realism and pandemonium into a scream. Excellent sculpture. ( Featured by LabyrinthCreations )

what clay do you sculpt this out of?

Chavant oil based clay.

:iconcorazondedios:
CorazondeDios Featured By Owner Feb 6, 2012
yeah that's what I thought. I work with ceramic clay. I've never tried the oil base. You can't fire it, right? Does it ever harden?
Reply
:icondreamfloatingby:
dreamfloatingby Featured By Owner Feb 9, 2012
no, it doesnt harden, since its oil based instead of water based, and thats the idea; it can last up up two years before it needs to be molded.
Ceramic clay, although quicker and easier to work with, has a short time before it dries out and becomes unworkable.

I'm very aware of the limitations of ceramic clay (unless you cover it well and keep it moist.) What is the end process for oil base clay? Do yuo make a mold out of it and then cast it in bronze or something?

:icondreamfloatingby:
dreamfloatingby Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2012
yes, a mold is the final outcome, then reproduced in Bronze, plaster, resin or another medium. In this case, latex as a Halloween mask.

It's Adam Savage! In his younger years!

In all seriousness, this is a darn good sculpture. I'm not sure it looks entirely like a scream so much as a yawn... but you definitely got every little crease, fold, nook, cranny... every detail of this person! It really is a great piece.

This reminds me of one of the final scenes of Aaliyah as Akasha in the Queen of the Damned, when she's singed and burned to nothing but ash before drifting away.
